The University of Newcastle is seeking a proactive and hands‑on ResLife Operations Officer to join our Student Living – ResLife Operations team.

This is a dynamic, mobile role focused on the readiness, quality, and day‑to‑day operation of student accommodation spaces. You’ll play a key role in ensuring residences are safe, well‑maintained, and ready to deliver an exceptional living experience for students.

 

About the Role

Reporting to the Manager, ResLife Operations, the ResLife Operations Officer undertakes a wide range of operational, facilities, and project activities across Student Living properties.

This is a highly active role, with most of your time spent in residences and community spaces. You’ll work closely with Infrastructure and Facilities Services and other stakeholders to ensure accommodation spaces are maintained to a high standard and ready for student use.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct regular room inspections across Student Living residences and support room readiness processes
  • Coordinate arrivals, departures, and room turnarounds in collaboration with facilities teams
  • Manage maintenance requests, ensuring timely action and accurate record‑keeping
  • Support key and card access systems, including programming and replacement
  • Assist with operational readiness for new and existing residences
  • Contribute to process improvements to enhance efficiency and the student experience
  • Support stock, asset, and equipment management, including purchasing and inventory tracking
  • Coordinate and maintain shared equipment (e.g. AV resources)
  • Provide task direction to casual staff as required
  • Participate in major operational and engagement periods (e.g. Move In/Move Out, Open Day)
  • Identify and manage WHS risks, escalating issues and contributing to safe work practices

 

About You

You’re a practical, solutions‑focused professional who enjoys working in a fast‑paced, hands‑on environment. You’re organised, adaptable, and confident managing competing priorities while maintaining a strong focus on safety, quality, and service.

To succeed in this role, you’ll bring:

  • Relevant qualifications or equivalent experience in operations, facilities, or a related field
  • Strong organisational and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders
  • Experience working with systems and data, with confidence using and learning new technologies
  • Ability to work independently, take initiative, and deliver outcomes on time
  • Sound understanding of workplace health and safety, and commitment to safe work practices
  • A flexible approach, with the ability to work across campuses and during peak operational periods

Additional Information

  • This is a physically active role involving extended time on your feet, manual handling, and working across residential environments
