The University of Newcastle is committed to delivering an exceptional student experience, preparing graduates for life, and with a shared purpose to better our regions and the world. Our 2020-2025 Looking Ahead Strategic Plan captures the spirit of looking to the future to imagine and then realise possibilities, enabled by the values of excellence, equity, engagement and sustainability. Inclusive and culturally responsive, the University has a long and proud history as an innovator in educational outcomes and employment opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

Assuming full responsibility for student and academic administration, the University Registrar is a pivotal leader driving excellence across the University. Working in close partnership with the Senior Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), this role provides strategic and operational leadership in student administration, academic governance, policy, compliance, and risk management.

The Registrar safeguards the integrity of academic processes and standards, delivers high-quality advice and reporting to support informed decision-making, oversees student conduct matters, and fosters strong relationships with regulatory bodies such as TEQSA. Through visionary leadership and a commitment to best practice, this role ensures a seamless, student-focused experience while upholding the University’s reputation for academic quality and compliance.

Able to reflect on a career across academic and student administration (or in another highly regulated sector), candidates will demonstrate the ability to interpret complex policy and governance, whilst quickly commanding the respect of academic and professional colleagues for being fair, equitable and consistent. Candidates will also exhibit an appropriate record of senior leadership and management experience commensurate with being part of a high performing university leadership team. Outstanding communication skills and an objective approach to decision making are essential, as is the ability to influence, inspire, and exercise sound and consistent judgment in a dynamic environment.
