The role
The University of Newcastle’s Digital Technology Solutions team is seeking a Test Automation Engineer to play a key role in ensuring the reliability and performance of our enterprise systems, with a strong focus on Microsoft Dynamics 365 and ServiceNow.
You’ll work in an agile environment alongside our external partners, creating and running regression suites, interpreting results, and developing a deep understanding of software changes across our platforms. Your work will directly contribute to maintaining system stability, reducing testing time through automation, and ensuring a seamless digital experience for staff and students.
What you’ll do:
- Collaborate with the Capability Test Lead, senior stakeholders, and our Service Delivery Manager to plan, execute, and refine automated test activities.
 - Use TOSCA to automate accessibility and functional testing requirements, enhancing the efficiency and accuracy of testing cycles.
 - Partner with external vendors to assess and validate system changes, ensuring quality and performance before deployment.
 - Monitor and report on test outcomes, troubleshoot issues, and continuously improve automated suites for maximum reliability.
 - Occasionally perform manual testing where required and support the development of career-ready placement students within the team.
 
About you
You’re a methodical and detail-oriented professional with a passion for improving testing processes through automation. You enjoy working collaboratively with technical and non-technical stakeholders, and you’re comfortable taking ownership of your work in a fast-paced, agile environment.
You’ll bring:
- Proven experience in test automation, ideally with TOSCA (or a strong desire to develop expertise in it).
 - Experience in Microsoft Dynamics 365 environments.
 - Excellent communication and collaboration skills across internal and external teams.
 - A methodical approach, strong attention to detail, and the ability to work autonomously.
 - Familiarity with agile practices and tools such as JIRA (advantageous).
 
This full-time position is a fixed term role until December 2027 at a HEW 6 Higher Education Level located at Callaghan Campus.
