We are looking for a highly skilled and motivated Data Governance Specialist to join our team. The successful applicant will be responsible for the effective and sustained data governance and data management of the University, improving and expanding the current data governance framework in line with the needs of the business and existing road maps. This includes:

  • Maintaining and improving existing frameworks
  • Classifying new data and maintaining existing classification of the University’s data governance solution
  • Monitoring and reporting of the effectiveness of data governance and management practices
  • Identifying and triaging any issues in data and implementing controls to mitigate
  • Improving accuracy, completeness and consistency of the University’s data
  • Maintain documentation to appropriate standards
  • Build and maintain trusted and collaborative stakeholder relationships providing advice and support
  • Engage with technical teams to maintain knowledge of the University’s information architecture and technologies

About the Unit

This role sits within the Strategic Planning and Performance unit and is heavily involved in cross-unit collaborations and/or projects with our partners in Digital Technology Services (DTS) and other business units.

This Fixed Term position is full time until March 2024 with the potential for extension and will be located at the Callaghan Campus (Awabakal and Worimi land). 

What we offer

The remuneration for this position is from $91,259 - $102,667 FTE +17% superannuation and is commensurate with skills and experience.

  1. A relevant degree with at least 4 years’ subsequent relevant experience; or extensive experience and management expertise; or equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.
  2. Demonstrated skills and experience in data management, data governance, data privacy and security, data quality and/or the delivery of data related projects.
  3. Excellent organisational skills and business acumen with a proven ability to understand complicated business concepts and align these with a technical framework.
  4. Ability to work independently and cooperatively as an effective member of a team.
  5. Demonstrated stakeholder management skills and the ability to actively engage and communicate technical concepts to diverse audiences.
  6. An understanding of the BI and analytics sphere.
  7. Knowledge of, and experience in adhering to workplace policies and procedures in the areas of work health safety, equity, diversity and promoting a respectful workplace culture

It is desirable that the successful candidate also possess the following:

  • Experience in data governance frameworks, processes and tools
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Purview and/or Azure
  • Experience with agile teams and projects
  • Familiarity with the Higher Education Sector.
