- Hands-on technical role working across enterprise platforms in a collaborative, fast-paced environment
- Design, build and improve scalable solutions across a modern enterprise tech stack
- Drive automation, CI/CD and continuous improvement
- Onsite position based at Callaghan, NSW
Be part of the University of Newcastle's ongoing digital transformation and help shape the future of our enterprise technology platforms.
The Role
Digital Technology Solutions (DTS) is the engine behind the University's technology strategy, delivering cutting-edge digital services to staff and students and enabling excellence in education, research and engagement. As a DevOps Engineering Specialist, you'll play a key role in that mission.
This isn't a single-platform job. You'll work across an enterprise-grade modern tech stack that includes ServiceNow, Dynamics 365, Okta, SailPoint, GitHub, AWS Cloud, Microsoft Fabric, MuleSoft, Atlassian (Jira/Confluence) and more. You'll collaborate with cross-functional teams to diagnose and resolve complex technical issues, contribute to platform reliability and performance, and support the ongoing evolution of University technology services and practices.
You'll also have the opportunity to mentor less-experienced team members, help lift capability across the DevOps team, and contribute to a culture of innovation, accountability and collaboration. If you thrive on solving hard problems, improving how things work and building great technology at scale, this is your opportunity.
What you'll do:
- Develop and deploy software, infrastructure and tool sets for the build, test and release of enterprise solutions
- Assist in building and developing platform pipelines within the capability area
- Contribute to the design, implementation and continuous improvement of AI-assisted development, CI/CD pipelines, automation, observability and infrastructure-as-code practices
- Analyse, debug and troubleshoot incidents and contribute to resolving problems impacting engineering and solution delivery
- Assist with design, management and monitoring of systems and platforms
- Proactively engage with technical teams and the business to identify the right tooling and practices for development and delivery
- Support platform health through regular maintenance, upgrades, secure coding practices and alignment with University security policies
- Mentor less-experienced members of the DevOps team, sharing knowledge and helping build capability
- Build and maintain strong working relationships with internal stakeholders, managed-service partners and vendors
What We're Looking For
- At least 4 years’ experience designing, building and improving scalable enterprise systems with upstream and downstream dependencies across complex environments, for example across areas such as enterprise application platforms, cloud environments, or systems integration
- Demonstrated experience applying DevOps practices, including automation, observability, alerting, infrastructure-as-code, configuration management and deployment tooling
- Strong ability to identify, troubleshoot and resolve complex scalability and performance issues, with demonstrated ITSM experience (incident, problem, change, release and service-level management)
- Leadership capabilities including the ability to mentor team members and work effectively with multiple stakeholders to achieve successful outcomes
- Highly developed interpersonal skills, including the ability to work effectively in a team environment with clear communication and mutual respect
- Demonstrated knowledge of workplace obligations and experience cultivating a safe, healthy, equitable, diverse and respectful workplace
Nice-to-Have
- Experience with ServiceNow or Dynamics 365 is valued but not essential
- Detailed working knowledge across a very broad range of IT ecosystems
This is a full-time, continuing position at HEW Level 7, located in the Digital Technology Solutions department at the Callaghan Campus.
