The Release Manager role plays a critical role in coordinating and managing software releases, ensuring that Telstra Health delivers high quality and timely product updates. By streamlining the release process and minimising disruption, this role supports the efficient delivery of innovative digital health solutions
About the role:
The Release Manager is responsible for planning, coordinating, and executing the release of web, desktop, and mobile software for the health sector, ensuring high-quality and seamless deployment for end users. This role works closely with QA Analysts, Application Specialists, and technical writers to manage the release process, maintain documentation, and ensure compliance with industry standards, while driving continuous improvement and efficient delivery processes.
Release Planning & Coordination
- Plan, schedule, and coordinate software releases across web, desktop, and mobile platforms, ensuring alignment with project timelines and dependencies.
- Collaborate closely with QA Analysts and Application Specialists to accept deliverables from the tech service provider, ensuring all release components meet the require standards.
- Act as the primary liaison between internal stakeholders and the tech service provider, ensuring clear communication of release requirements and timelines.
Quality Assurance & Testing
- Take end-to-end responsibility for the quality of software releases, ensuring thorough testing and validation before deployment.
- Coordinate with QA Analysts to ensure comprehensive test coverage, proper defect management, and resolution of issues prior to release.
- Oversee the completeness of testing activities, ensuring all critical functionalities, integrations, and user scenarios are tested and validated.
Collaboration with Technical Writers
- Work with technical writers to ensure all necessary release documentation is created, reviewed, and finalised before the software goes live.
- Ensure release notes, user guides, and operational manuals are accurate, up-to-date, and accessible to end users and support teams.
Release Execution & Deployment
- Manage the end-to-end release process, including deployment, tracking, and monitoring of software releases in non-production and production environments.
- Coordinate with relevant stakeholders to ensure smooth release deployment, minimising disruptions and ensuring a positive end-user experience.
- Monitor post-release performance, quickly addressing any issues that arise to ensure stability and functionality.
- Communicate release schedules and updates to stakeholders, ensuring alignment and transparency across departments.
- Lead post-release reviews to assess performance, identify lessons learned, and implement corrective actions for future improvements.
Stakeholder Management & Communication
- Maintain strong working relationships with QA Analysts, Application Specialists, and the tech service provider to ensure successful release outcomes.
- Provide clear, timely updates to stakeholders on release progress, risks, and any issues that may impact release timelines or quality.
- Ensure feedback from stakeholders and end users is collected and communicated to the tech service provider for continuous improvement.
Compliance & Regulatory Adherence
- Ensure all software releases adhere to industry regulations, health sector standards, and
- internal quality requirements applicable in Australia by co-ordinating with Clinical Safety Officers. Verify that all compliance-related documentation and testing have been completed and approved before releasing software to production.
Documentation & Reporting
- Ensure accurate and thorough documentation of the release process, including release plans, testing outcomes, and deployment notes.
- Collaborate with technical writers to maintain a comprehensive knowledge base, ensuring end-users and support teams have access to all necessary release information.
Continuous Improvement
- Identify opportunities for process improvement within the release management lifecycle, ensuring greater efficiency, quality, and consistency in future releases.
- Collect feedback from end users, QA Analysts, and Application Specialists to implement changes that enhance the release process and user experience.
- Collate and route feedback from end users, QA Analysts, and Application Specialists to the relevant product teams, ensuring insights are used to improve future releases and product features.
Risk & Issue Management
- Proactively identify, document, and manage risks associated with software releases, developing mitigation plans to ensure successful outcomes.
- Address issues swiftly and effectively during the release process, minimizing impact on end users and maintaining system stability.
Coordination with Tech Service Provider
- Ensure the tech service provider delivers high-quality software that meets defined requirements, working closely with them to address any gaps or issues.
- Validate that all deliverables meet quality standards before acceptance, ensuring smooth integration into the release process.
About you:
Essential:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer science, Information Technology, or a related field.
Desirable:
- Certification in ITIL, Agile, or DevOps practices.
- 5+ years of experience in software release management or a related role, managing complex release cycles in a fast-paced environment
- Strong background in coordinating with cross-functional teams, including development, Quality Assurance, and operations, to deliver successful releases.
- Familiarity with release management tools and methodologies, as well as experience with Agile and DevOps practices.
- Strong knowledge of release management tools such as Jenkins, Jira, or similar platforms.
Practical and Strategic Understanding of
- Release Planning & Coordination – Managing release schedules and ensuring alignment with stakeholder expectations.
- Agile and DevOps Practices – Applying agile and DevOps principles to streamline release processes and ensure efficient delivery.
- Health Sector Compliance & Regulatory Standards –Understanding industry-specific regulations and compliance requirements, particularly within the Australian health sector.
- Documentation & Technical Writing – Ensuring comprehensive release documentation is maintained, and collaborating with technical writers.
- Continuous Improvement & Post-Release Analysis –Implementing feedback loops, conducting post-release reviews, and driving process improvements.
- Financial Management (FMIT) – Managing budgets and cost efficiency related to the release process.
