DevOps Engineer

What’s the opportunity? 

Telstra Health offers software applications, and platforms that connect health information, patients and providers. We offer our solutions to the pharmacy, public and private hospital, primary care, diagnostic, Indigenous health, and aged, disability and community care sectors in Australia, as well as to Government and other health funders 

Telstra Health is seeking a DevOps Engineer to join a team leading the delivery of exciting new connected health solutions. This role will deliver solutions for seamless information exchange between Telstra Health and the healthcare ecosystem.  

This role is instrumental in delivering the Telstra Health mission through planning, design and deployment of infrastructure and technology through automation. 

 

What can I expect? 

Duties and responsibilities: 

  • Continuous Integration and Delivery (CI/CD): Assist with the implementation and maintenance an efficient CI/CD pipeline to automate the build, test, and deployment processes.  
  • Infrastructure Automation: Develop and manage infrastructure-as-code solutions to automate the provisioning, configuration, and management of infrastructure components.  
  • System Monitoring and Alerting: Implement robust monitoring and alerting systems to ensure the availability, performance, and health of applications and infrastructure.  
  • Collaboration and Communication: Collaborate with development, operations, and other cross-functional teams to promote a culture of collaboration, knowledge sharing, and continuous improvement. Ability to work within an agile software development framework, working closely with Developers, Testers, and Business Analysts. 
  • Security and Compliance: Implement and maintain security best practices in the DevOps environment.  
  • Incident Response and Troubleshooting: Develop and maintain incident response plans, perform root cause analysis, and implement preventive measures to minimise future incidents. 
  • Scalability and Performance Optimisation: Continuously monitor and optimise system performance to ensure scalability and responsiveness. Identify bottlenecks and implement solutions to improve performance, efficiency, and resource utilisation.  
  • Documentation and Knowledge Management: Create and maintain documentation on infrastructure setup, processes, and standard operating procedures.  

 

About you: 

Education & Qualifications 

  • Tertiary qualifications in a technology discipline or equivalent experience. 
  • Highly regarded: Any certifications in scripting tools required for the role. 
  • Desirable: Cloud technology certifications e.g. AWS Certified DevOps Engineer, Microsoft Certified: Azure DevOps Engineer Expert. Online Courses and Bootcamps 

Please note: certifications alone are not a substitute for practical experience, and hands-on experience with relevant tools and technologies is crucial. Additionally, staying up to date with industry trends, participating in workshops, and contributing to open-source projects can further enhance the knowledge and skills of this role. 

Skills & Experience 

  • DevOps Practices: Experience with implementing and maintaining DevOps practices, including continuous integration and delivery (CI/CD), infrastructure as code, configuration management, automated testing, and release management. Hands-on knowledge of DevOps tools is highly beneficial. 
  • Cloud Platforms: Proficiency in working with cloud platforms like Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud Platform (GCP), or other similar platforms. Experience with provisioning and managing cloud resources, configuring, and deploying applications in the cloud, and leveraging cloud-native services. 
  • Containerisation and Orchestration: Familiarity with containerisation technologies and utilise orchestration frameworks for scalability and resiliency. 
  • Infrastructure Management: Knowledge of managing and maintaining infrastructure components, such as servers, networks, databases, and storage systems. Experience with Linux/Unix operating systems, network protocols, and monitoring tools is beneficial. 
  • Scripting and Automation: Proficiency in scripting languages like Python, Bash, or PowerShell to automate routine tasks, configure infrastructure, and create deployment pipelines. Experience with automation tools and frameworks, such as Ansible or Terraform is advantageous. 
  • Collaboration and Communication: Strong collaboration skills and the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams, including developers, operations personnel, and business stakeholders. Excellent communication skills to articulate technical concepts to non-technical team members and stakeholders. 
  • Problem-solving and Troubleshooting: A strong problem-solving mindset and the ability to troubleshoot complex issues in a production environment. Experience with incident response, performance optimization, and root cause analysis. 

    Highly Desirable: 

  •     Healthcare industry background is highly desirable, including: 
  • Proficiency in healthcare data exchange standards such as HL7, FHIR, DICOM, and other relevant protocols. 
  • Strong understanding of healthcare data exchange protocols and interoperability. 
  • Experience in integration work, preferably on platforms like Smile CDR and Rhapsody
