What’s the opportunity?
The Release Train and Delivery Lead role plays a critical role in facilitating and leading complex Agile Release Train processes, ensuring that Telstra Health delivers high quality and timely product implementations and updates. By streamlining the release process and minimising disruption, this role supports the efficient delivery of innovative digital health solutions through the end to end management of our software development schedule. This role will sit across up to 9 teams to ensure our seamless and cohesive delivery of capabilities. Experience working in a Salesforce ecosystem is required to enable this person to hit the ground running.
About the role:
The Release Train and Delivery Lead is responsible for planning, coordinating, and executing the release of web, desktop, and mobile software for the health sector, ensuring high-quality and seamless deployments for end users.
This role works closely with Developers, Architects, Product Owners, QA Analysts, Application Specialists, Clinical Specialists, Testers, and technical writers to manage the release process, maintain documentation, and ensure compliance with industry standards, gather feedback and insights, while driving continuous improvement and efficient delivery processes.
Release Planning & Coordination
- Plan, schedule, and coordinate software releases across web, desktop, and mobile platforms, ensuring alignment with project timelines, scope and dependencies.
- Collaborate closely with Developers and QA Analysts to ensure deliverables from the mixed squads, meet the required standards and ensure a seamless experience for our business and customers.
- Act as the primary liaison between internal stakeholders and the Squads, ensuring clear communication of release requirements and timelines.
Quality Assurance & Testing
- Take end-to-end responsibility for the quality of software releases, ensuring thorough testing and validation before deployment.
- Coordinate with QA Analysts to ensure comprehensive test coverage, proper defect management, and resolution of issues prior to release.
- Oversee the completeness of testing activities, ensuring all critical functionalities, integrations, and user scenarios are tested and validated.
- Lead with a test automation mindset to automate where possible.
Collaboration with Technical Writers
- Work with technical writers/ Business Analysts and Developers to ensure all necessary release documentation is created, reviewed, and finalized before the software goes live.
- Ensure release notes, user guides, and operational manuals are accurate, up-to-date, and accessible to end users and support teams.
- Think about user experience first in all deliveries considering how we enhance and simplify our end user experience.
Release Execution & Deployment
- Manage the end-to-end release and delivery process, including deployment, tracking, and monitoring of software releases in non-production and production environments.
- Coordinate with relevant stakeholders to ensure smooth release deployment, minimizing disruptions and ensuring a positive end-user experience.
- Monitor post-release performance, quickly addressing any issues that arise to ensure stability and functionality.
- Communicate release schedules and updates to stakeholders, ensuring alignment and transparency across departments.
- Lead post-release reviews to assess performance, identify lessons learned, and implement corrective actions for future improvements.
Stakeholder Management & Communication
- Maintain strong working relationships with Developers, QA Analysts, Product Owners, BAs and partners to ensure successful release outcomes.
- Provide clear, timely updates to stakeholders on release progress, risks, and any issues that may impact release timelines or quality.
- Ensure feedback from stakeholders and end users is collected and communicated to the tech service provider for continuous improvement.
- Ensure Agile processes allow for regular stakeholder and end user insights and input.
Compliance & Regulatory Adherence
- Ensure all software releases adhere to industry regulations, health sector standards, and internal quality requirements applicable in Australia by co-ordinating with Clinical Safety Officers.
- Embed Clinical Safety into Squads to bring insights early and ongoing.
- Verify that all compliance-related documentation and testing have been completed and approved before releasing software to production.
Documentation & Reporting
- Ensure accurate and thorough documentation of the release process, including release plans, testing outcomes, and deployment notes.
- Collaborate with technical writers to maintain a comprehensive knowledge base, ensuring end-users and support teams have access to all necessary release information.
- Continually look to improve end user experience, minimising the need for documentation and training over intuitive user experiences.
Continuous Improvement
- Identify opportunities for process improvement within the release management lifecycle, ensuring greater efficiency, quality, and consistency in future releases.
- Collect feedback from end users, Developers, Product team, QA Analysts, UX and Clinical to implement changes that enhance the release process and user experience.
- Collate and route feedback from end users, and the team to the relevant business teams, ensuring insights are used to improve future releases and product features.
- Collaborate regularly with various business teams to collect end user feedback regularly.
Risk & Issue Management
- Proactively identify, document, and manage risks associated with software releases, developing mitigation plans to ensure successful outcomes.
- Address issues swiftly and effectively during the release process, minimizing impact on end users and maintaining system stability.
Coordination with Partners
- Ensure we work collaboratively with our partners to deliver high-quality software that meets defined requirements, working closely to address any gaps or issues promptly.
- Validate that all deliverables meet quality standards before acceptance, ensuring smooth integration into the release process.
- One team approach to delivery
About you:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer science, Information Technology, or a related field.
- Certification in Agile Methodologies, ideally SAFE
- Certification in DevOps practices.
- Appropriate qualifications in Project Management Methodology (i.e. PMBOK, Prince 2)
- Salesforce Certifications.
- 8+ years of experience in software release management or a related role, managing complex release cycles in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong background in coordinating with cross-functional teams, including development, Quality Assurance, and operations, to deliver successful releases.
- Familiarity with release management tools and methodologies, as well as experience with Agile and DevOps practices, preferably SAFE Agile.
- Strong knowledge of release management tools including Jira to an advanced level.
- Experience delivering within complex Salesforce ecosystem.
