State Library of Queensland is seeking a Specialist Library Technician as part of their Metadata Services team. This permanent role will undertake original cataloguing, arrangement, and description for published and unpublished State Library collections. The successful candidate will work closely with colleagues across the library who select, preserve, store, and provide access to materials to ensure description work strengthens the entire lifecycle of collections and fosters a user-centric approach. Our collections cover a range of subject areas, across all material types, and in physical, digital, and electronic formats.
The role requires a high proficiency in skills around digital content, technical systems, troubleshooting, and critical thinking are essential to work with diverse collections. We are seeking a team member that is highly motivated, proactive, and committed to development and skill building to support the evolving collection needs of a modern library.
Mandatory qualifications for the role are possession of a relevant/related degree, eligibility for technical membership of the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA), and understanding of metadata standards, practices and tools for original and complex cataloguing, including but not limited to RDA, Dewey Decimal Classification, DACS, LCSH, MARC21 bibliographic and authority formats.
