Carry out the functions of an inspector under the Mining and Quarrying Safety and Health Act 1999 and the Coal Mining Safety and Health Act 1999 to help ensure that mineral mining and quarrying industry operates at an acceptable level of risk. Operate on a regional basis subject to the direction of Resources Safety and Health Queensland Management. Plan and manage activities to achieve statutory and strategic outcomes.

Key Accountabilities
- Undertake inspections and audits relating to the operation of mines and quarries and where necessary take corrective action to improve safety and health in accordance with safety and health legislation.
- Fulfil the statutory role of an Inspector of Mines in accordance with requirements of the Mining and Quarrying Safety and Health Act 1999 and the Coal Mining Safety and Health Act 1999 subject to the directions and instructions of the regional inspector.
- Investigate reported breaches of safety and health legislation, accidents, incidents and complaints about the operation of metalliferous mines and quarries or coal mines, and where necessary require remedial action to be undertaken to prevent recurrence.
- Prepare investigation reports into accidents and incidents, including reports for the coroner and for prosecutions.
- Assist in the review and formulation of proposals and recommendations for the revision of legislation and standards, administrative frameworks, operational procedures, and advisory and consultative processes and procedures.
- Liaise with employers, workers, unions, industry organisations and government agencies to develop and maintain effective working relationships to achieve a safe and healthy mining industry.
- Participate in the Mines Inspectorate's emergency response systems and other activities as required.
- Maintain awareness of all aspects of developments in the mining and quarrying industries including operating methods, technology, technology transfer, equipment and products, particularly as they impact upon health and safety.
About You
- Highly desirable, Degree qualification in Engineering and minimum 5 years relevant industry experience.
- Experience in materials handling (fixed and mobile plant and equipment)
- Self-managed and able to plan work activities
- Highly developed communication, negotiation, influencing, analytical, problem resolution, interpersonal and stakeholder management skills.
