The role is accountable for ensuring that the cost estimating team provides a professional service to the project management and planning teams. The cost estimating team includes both Quantity Surveyors and Cost Estimators. The estimating manager leads this team to deliver high-quality, accurate and timely cost estimation services for all project and maintenance works. A significant contribution is to the development and approval of the NEC4 aligned Annual Integrated Works Program. Strong leadership is required to build a collaborative culture across the regionally dispersed and integrated teams, both within Sydney Water and the Regional Delivery Consortiums.
The role is accountable for the development, implementation and maintenance of a robust Project Cost Estimation system, associated databases and tools that provide the entire basis for market competitive pricing. The Estimating Manager must ensure delivery of high-quality information for project cost estimation and provide assurance across the project lifecycle, identifying systemic issues arising from estimating analysis across projects.
To be a P4S Estimating Manager within Sydney Water, you will have the leadership skills, knowledge and experience to take own the outcomes of a regionally engaged, yet centre led, cost estimating team. To succeed you will have the skills to build strong partnerships, being fully aware of what it takes for outstanding provision of cost estimating services. As a confident communicator, you are a natural influencer who knows what it takes to make a team perform, developing and leveraging relationships across a broad internal and external stakeholder network. Demonstrating and expecting your team of professional Quantity Surveyors and Estimators to maintain honest and open interactions with others, plus an ethical approach to work, will be a norm. Keeping safety, public health and environment at the front of mind will be an inherent leadership trait.
You will have done your time in large scale infrastructure delivery cost estimating. This will be supported by the business acumen to know how to work within complex environments, ensuring your team gets the work done. Being able to champion Sydney Water goals and values and managing business risks is part of how you work. Confidence to confront difficult issues promptly and directly, and supporting your teams when they need assistance, is shown by your ability to make critical business decisions in a timely manner. An ability to consider long-term implications of decisions whilst taking feedback from relevant parties is a key attribute.
