About the role

Drive optimal value across Sydney Water’s asset portfolio by ensuring cost‑effective, risk‑balanced, and high‑performing outcomes across the full asset lifecycle—from creation through to maintenance and renewal.

Focusing on continuous improvement in technical asset management, this role collaborates closely with field maintenance and reliability engineering teams.

You’ll ensure continuous evolution and consistent application of Sydney Water’s Maintenance practices and standards across the entire water and wastewater portfolio. 

Responsibilities:

  • Act as the technical SME for pumping systems and electro‑mechanical water assets
  • Diagnose and resolve complex asset issues using structured problem‑solving and RCA
  • Translate operational, maintenance, and control system data into engineering actions
  • Improve maintenance strategies to reduce repeat failures and reactive work
  • Optimise pump performance using understanding of pump curves and system behaviour
  • Integrate insights across mechanical, electrical, and operational domains
  • Apply asset data (e.g. SCADA, condition monitoring) to support predictive maintenance
  • Contribute to development of data‑driven and AI‑enabled reliability approaches

About you:

  • Degree/ Trades qualification with 5 to 10 years’ experience in Mechanical, Mechatronic Engineering or related discipline
  • Strong experience in condition monitoring and fault diagnostics with pumps and rotating equipment in water or industrial environments
  • Solid understanding of pump curves, system interactions, and failure mechanisms
  • Understanding in reliability engineering (RCA, FMEA, maintenance optimisation)
  • Knowledge of control systems (VSD/VFD, PLC, SCADA) and their impact on assets
  • Experience working with asset performance data and condition monitoring systems
  • Exposure to predictive analytics, digital tools, or AI applications in asset management will be an advantage
