Join Sydney Water’s Customer Metering Planning Team on a 12-month fixed term contract and play a pivotal role in transforming how we deliver water services across Greater Sydney.
About the Role
The Team is responsible for the development and operationalisation of the strategy for the supply, installation and maintenance of water meters on Sydney Water customer properties.
This includes contributing to the development of Sydney Water’s Business Cases for a full rollout of smart meters. There are multiple projects underway now and, in the pipeline, to build up capabilities, scale-up our smart metering fleet, and increase the value of the services we deliver for our customers-you’ll be joining us at a time of exciting growth and opportunity!
As our new Metrology Engineer, you will be the subject matter expert in smart metering and IoT, ensuring the health, performance, and compliance of our metering fleet.
You will lead technical initiatives, conduct metrological testing, and help us stay ahead of industry advancements and regulatory requirements including maintaining compliance with the National Measurement Act through ad hoc and routine testing and development.
Key Responsibilities
- Support Sydney Water in understanding foundational and emerging technologies and practices in metrology, smart metering, and IoT.
- Lead the development of Sydney Water’s metrology program for compliance and performance.
- Lead in developing new processes and systems to maximise the value from meters and the data they generate to benefit Sydney Water and our customers.
- Collaborate with other areas of Sydney Water’s business and external partners to deliver project outcomes.
- Devise and implement systems and processes to maximise the efficiency and value potential of the metering fleet.
- Carry out metrological tests of water meters
- Stay updated with the latest advancements in water metering technology and industry regulations.
- Prepare technical reports and documentation related to water metering projects.
- Understand metrology in technical detail and make recommendations to the business.
- Keep up to date on regulatory standards and requirements and ensure Sydney Water’s metering fleet is compliant.
- Understanding complex metering, IoT, and ICT systems and solving complex issues.
- Build and maintain external working relationships with Vendors and suppliers such as metering, telecommunications, IoT, or software providers, Sydney Water residential, non-residential customers, Other Stakeholders and suppliers so we can perform our functions.
About you
- Tertiary qualification in engineering, mechatronics, electronics, ICT, project management, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- Valid driver’s licence.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage stakeholders at all levels.
- Proven experience managing complex projects and delivering on targets.
- Hands-on experience with water metering systems and technologies.
- Strong understanding of industry standards and regulations related to water metering.
- Experience with SAP for project and meter data management (desirable).
