About the role
An exciting opportunity has become available for a Business Customer Specialist to join the Water Resource Recovery team at Sydney Water.
The primary purpose of this role is to manage relationships between Sydney Water and its complex, low- to medium-risk business customers with non-standard servicing requirements. The position requires strong customer relationship management capabilities, along with a significant field-based component. This includes applying technical knowledge of trade waste and backflow prevention to support customer compliance with Sydney Water’s requirements.
In this role, you will utilise your communication and stakeholder engagement skills to maintain professional relationships, engage effectively at a senior organisational level, and negotiate mutually beneficial outcomes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Act as the primary relationship lead for low- to medium-risk business customers, engaging operationally and strategically
- Identify and present innovative products and services based on customer needs and industry insights
- Ensure customers meet contractual obligations, with a strong focus on trade waste compliance
- Assess, approve, and monitor trade waste discharges using established tools and processes
- Investigate trade waste incidents and drive actions to mitigate risks and ensure compliance
- Build stakeholder networks, advocate for customers, and maintain accurate CRM records
About you:
The successful candidate will possess or have the foundations to develop technical expertise in waste water treatment systems and backflow prevention. You will leverage your strong communication and negotiation skills to engage with smaller and medium sized business customers across the network
In addition to tertiary qualifications in Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related discipline, and a valid drivers licence we are looking for:
- 3 - 5 years’ experience in a relevant role with a proven track record of achieving objectives.
- Ability to apply standards and regulations with customers and enforce compliance of tradewaste policy.
- Demonstrated ability to deliver programs and services to business customers.
- Knowledge of the commercial and industrial impacts on water authority operations.
- High level of customer service and relationship management skills
- Well-developed communication, negotiation and stakeholder management skills
- Proven ability to work safely in field environments.
