What will you be doing?­

The purpose of this role is to provide technical expertise to design, develop and support Sydney Water’s network SCADA system including configuration and software development, project co-ordination, electrical design review and development of functional design specifications.

The SCADA team is responsible for the design, development, support, maintenance and refinement of the SCADA system to achieve monitoring and control of Sydney Water’s network assets in water and wastewater.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Configure the SCADA systems and devices for the monitoring and control of water and wastewater assets.
  • Develop standardised software and libraries for RTU and PLC installations to ensure consistent asset control behaviour to minimise maintenance and improve productivity
  • Apply integrated change management systems and administer and utilise software and object library management systems.
  • Respond to system faults, diagnose, and rectify SCADA systems and provide technical advice to stakeholders to ensure smooth running of the SCADA system
  • Implement strategies to improve performance of the SCADA systems and to analyse and report capability
  • Test, develop and utilise new technology to improve asset performance.

Who are we looking for?

  • Recognised degree or equivalent qualification in areas such as (but not limited to) Electrical, Electronics, Computer Science, Mechatronics or Control Engineering.
  • Strong programming skills in developing IEC61131-3 programs and libraries. Experience in other languages and programming environments highly regarded.
  • 8+ years of demonstrated experience in developing control software and SCADA Configuration, preferably for water, recycled and wastewater systems. GeoSCADA experience preferable.
  • Demonstrated ability and experience in communication networks (LAN and WAN) and protocols such as DNP3, Modbus.
  • Demonstrated ability and experience in interpreting client requirements into technical SCADA engineering solutions. 
  • Thorough knowledge and proven experience in project planning and management.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to maintain effective relationships at all levels in the organisation
