Role Overview:

Sydney Theatre Company is seeking applications from emerging directors to become our 2027 Richard Wherrett Directing Fellow.  

This is an exciting opportunity for an early career theatre artist to join our Artistic Team on a part-time basis in 2027. 

Named after Sydney Theatre Company’s first Artistic Director, the Richard Wherrett Fellow is a member of the Company’s artistic team who provides wide-ranging support to the Artistic Director, Literary Manager and Artistic Operations Team, especially with regard to repertoire and artist development, play development and artistic production. The year-long position is designed to provide an opportunity to an emerging director to familiarise themselves with the ambitions, operations and output of Sydney Theatre Company and to partake in its artistic projects and productions. Previous Richard Wherrett Fellows include Ian Michael, Courtney Stewart, Shari Sebbens, Jess Arthur, Paige Rattray, Imara Savage, Sarah Giles, Lee Lewis, Wayne Blair, Joseph Couch.
