Intermediate Structural Drafter

Positions1 Position
Published At:17 days ago
Job no: NK7A3

MV is a respected structural engineering firm with over 30 years of delivering practical, innovative solutions for commercial, industrial, large residential, and specialist projects across Auckland and beyond. Taking pride in high standards in documentation and output, MV’s drawings are trusted on site for their clarity, detail, and constructability.

At MV, we focus on designing and detailing structures that support early watertightness and efficient, production-ready construction. Our approach prioritises buildability from the outset, reducing risk on site and supporting faster, more reliable construction outcomes. We are also committed to continuous improvement—actively investigating new efficiency tools, construction products, and leveraging AI to help automate and streamline our design and documentation processes.

As a capable Intermediate Structural Drafter, you'll create and refine 3D Revit models, generate detailed 2D construction documentation, and contribute to delivering projects that meet client deadlines without compromising quality. MV pride themselves on modelling reinforcing bars in 3D to ensure connections work on site.

In this position, you'll work autonomously on modelling and detailing while collaborating closely with engineers, architects, and the broader team, ensuring revisions are prompt, communication is clear, and standards are upheld. Expect a mix of concrete-focused work, plus varied structural elements using Revit Structures as your primary tool.

You'll support office operations as required, prioritise health & safety, and actively pursue skill growth through training. With a practical, problem-solving mindset and strong attention to detail, you'll thrive in our people-focused culture, asking questions, challenging assumptions when needed, and building trust through professionalism and teamwork. This role offers genuine mentorship from highly experienced seniors, exposure to diverse projects, and the satisfaction of seeing your models translate into successful built outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop precise 3D Revit models and extract detailed 2D structural drawings for construction
  • Experience with using BIM 360/Autodesk Construction Cloud. Manage revisions, adhere to deadlines, and maintain high delivery standards individually and as a team player
  • Communicate professionally with engineers, clients, and colleagues; flag issues early to keep projects on track
  • Follow company processes, filing guidelines, and Health & Safety policies
  • Contribute to a safe, collaborative office environment and commit to ongoing professional development

About You (Essential):

  • 2–5 years' relevant structural drafting experience, with at least 2 years hands-on project delivery in Revit Structures (modelling, not just markups/amendments)
  • Good knowledge of NZ building methods, materials, and structural detailing
  • Excellent attention to detail, organisation, and self-management skills
  • Solid communication and interpersonal abilities – a social, approachable personality who works well with all levels
  • Proactive, practical problem-solver who seeks guidance when needed and embraces new tools/technology

Why Join MV Engineers?

Work in a supportive, personable environment with genuine mentorship, opportunities to grow your Revit and structural expertise, and contribute meaningfully to New Zealand's built landscape. Enjoy work-life balance in our Grafton office, a forward-thinking team culture, and the chance to make your mark in a firm that values integrity, collaboration, and excellence.
