About the service:
The Medicare Mental Health Services are free and you do not need an appointment, referral or Medicare card to visit a Medicare Mental Health Centre. The new services in Launceston, Devonport, Burnie and Outer Hobart are co-funded by the Australian and Tasmanian Governments, to provide a streamlined approach to support better mental health and social wellbeing across the country.
The service is tailored to the needs of the community in Tasmania and provides a combination of peer-integrated recovery and clinical support.
The Medicare Mental Health Centre provides a safe, welcoming and supportive environment for people experiencing psychological distress, allowing them to:
- Identify alternatives to presenting to the Emergency Department
- Access support from trained mental health professionals within their community, outside a clinical setting

Role overview:
As part of the multidisciplinary team, the Clinician will provide focused psychological strategies tailored to meet the individual needs of people accessing the service within a community based mental health care setting. As well as working with relevant service systems to respond appropriately to their mental health and developmental needs.
- Provide comprehensive assessment, brief and ongoing interventions, risk management and care planning
- Work collaboratively across health service networks to plan and coordinate individualised psychosocial interventions to meet the needs of people with mental health issues based on a case formulation approach
- Work cooperatively and effectively through active participation within the multidisciplinary mental health team, the profession specific network and with consumers, families/carers and extended agencies
Requirements:
- Must have one of the following: General AHPRA registration as a Psychologist, Clinical Psychologist, Mental Health Occupational Therapist OR Mental Health Nurse OR AASW registration as an Accredited Mental Health Social Worker OR a Counselling degree and PACFA/ ACA registration along with a minimum of 2 years' experience in the relevant field
- Knowledge and experience in the provision of clinical mental health assessment and evidence-based interventions
- Proven judgment and evaluation skills demonstrating a working understanding assessment and care planning
- Sound understating of the public, non-government and private mental health systems and programs and associated non-mental health programs in a community setting
- Demonstrated computer skills and ability to maintain clinical records
- Proven understanding of duty of care, rights to privacy and confidentiality
- Positive, solution-focused attitude with commitment to positively participate in service improvement activities and personal clinical growth
- Well-developed written, verbal and interpersonal skills
- Must be eligible to apply/currently hold a WWVP
- Must hold/be willing to apply for NDIS worker screening clearance
