  • Service operating hours: 3.00pm - 10.00pm (working days can be negotiated)

Role Overview:

  • Safe Haven is a walk-in, after hours service providing a nonclinical and person-centered alternative to other crisis support. You will work with a team of peer workers who utilise their lived experience of mental illness to support community members experiencing emotional distress.
  • The Service Leader works in close partnership with the Service Manager to provide leadership, practice development and mentoring sessions to a team of support workers
  • This position provides instructions and guidance to support a small team of passionate peer workers to deliver emotional support to people struggling with suicidality
  • The Service Leader provides person centered guidance and mentoring to Peer Support workers to best support the guest and adhere to the model of the service
  • The Service leader provides coaching and mentoring to peer Support Workers and work collaboratively with stakeholders to successfully support the guests in the service
  • To Support administrative functions of the Service Manager
  • Monitor and review the systems and processes used in Client Services. The collected information is used to analyse service delivery outcomes and to enhance the effectiveness of support for persons with a mental illness/ disability


Requirements:

  • Minimum of Cert IV in Mental Health, Community Services or other related discipline (ideally a completed Diploma or Bachelors) 
  • Experience and skills in working with people experiencing mental illness and/or disability
  • Ability to think and act calmly and deal sensitively with distressed people
  • Lived experience of Mental Health recovery and proactivity in managing wellbeing
  • Previous experience in peer work and management/ leadership role
  • Ability to apply thoughtful and ethical decision making and act within professional boundaries
  • Demonstrate ability to guide, mentor and develop staff
  • Demonstrate effective listening, communication skills, empathy; and the capacity to relate with others with dignity and respect
  • Ability to help program participants link in with other relevant community resources and to promote the rights, responsibilities and recovery of program participants
  • Ability to implement and facilitate planned activities resulting in greater community access and support
  • Demonstrated communication, problem solving and organisational skills
  • Proficiency in use of computer and Microsoft office
  • Demonstrated ability to work with families, carers, government agencies and community services
  • Must be eligible to apply/currently hold a WWVP
  • Must hold/be willing to apply for NDIS worker screening clearance 
  • Current driver's license
