Role overview:
The IPS Vocational Worker at headspace uses their experiences of life, seeking support for their work & study, and mental health recovery to support others and help them navigate their mental health challenges.
Sharing advice, stories, and reflections between peers can be a vital part of the recovery process and a way to maintain mental health and work and study plans and goals. It is a way for young people to come together to express themselves free of judgement, with the knowledge that they are not alone, and someone understands how they feel.
The role will be drawing on their lived experience of mental health and job/study seeking in the everyday duties of their role.
The IPS Vocational Peer Worker will provide open, appropriate and effective support to young people accessing or considering connection to headspace Individual Placement and Support (IPS) services. IPS is a vocational program geared towards matching a young person with employment opportunities beneficial for their mental health, while also addressing non-vocational needs.
This role works collaboratively with the IPS Team Leader and Vocational Specialists, providing employment and education support through peer-to-peer mutual support. The role is designed to complement IPS services, using the lived and professional experience of the IPS Vocational Peer Worker.
