About the headspace Townsville service:

headspace Townsville, under the leadership of their lead agency Stride, deliver high quality evidence-based clinical care to achieve better health outcomes for young people aged 12-25 years.

Our multidisciplinary team supports young people in the Townsville region by providing support for mental health, physical health, alcohol and other drug use, and getting into work and study.

headspace Townsville offers a number of evidence based mental health and wellbeing treatments that range from low intensity brief interventions through to high intensity long-term interventions. These include:

  •  ‘One-At-A-Time supports’ when young people may only be needing a few sessions with a clinician to work on current stressors or concerns.
  • Moderate intensity medium-term individual and group therapy when young people may need a few more sessions to work on specific concerns such as anxiety, depression or other mental health difficulties.
  • A dedicated suicide prevention program (You Are Not Alone – YANA) that provides time-limited high intensity interventions for young people who are experiencing suicidal thoughts and behaviours.
  • A dedicated trauma program (‘Tern’ program) that provides recovery focused long-term high intensity interventions for young people who have experienced multiple traumas throughout their lives.

 

Role overview:

As a Mental Health Clinician, you will provide focused psychological strategies tailored to meet the individual needs of the young people accessing the service, while working within a multidisciplinary team environment. headspace Townsville currently has full-time and part-time opportunities available within the Tern and YANA programs:

  • Provide mental health assessments and case formulations to determine treatment goals
  • Provide evidence based therapeutic interventions in line with the program requirements
  • Provide client-centred and treatment-oriented case management
  • Complete referrals and support transitions to external services as clinically indicated
  • Participate in regular program specific group supervision
  • Participate in the provision of appropriate mental health education programs for health professionals, community-based services and community groups as required
  • Participate in the identification, development and implementation of quality and service improvement activities that continually improve client care and enhance the delivery of services within a multidisciplinary team and the service.


Relocation options available:

  • Stride will negotiate a suitable relocation allowance with successful applicants who are required to relocate.

Requirements:

  • Must have one of the following: General AHPRA registration as a Psychologist, Clinical Psychologist, Mental Health Occupational Therapist OR Mental Health Nurse OR AASW registration as an Accredited Mental Health Social Worker
  • Extensive & demonstrated experience providing clinical services to young people (12-25 years)
  • Well-developed judgment and evaluation skills demonstrating a working understanding assessment and care planning
  • Sound understanding of the public, non-government and private mental health systems and programs and associated non-mental health programs in a community setting
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills showing an ability and sensitivity to work with people who have or are at risk of developing a mental illness
  • Proven ability to work creatively, collaboratively and effectively as a member of a team
  • Demonstrated skills in organisation and time-management, including the ability to work under pressure and balance multiple tasks
  • Excellent verbal communication and writing skills
  • Must be eligible to apply/currently hold a Blue Card
  • Must hold/be willing to apply for NDIS worker screening clearance
