Medicare Mental Health Centres, formerly Head to Health, are an important part of the Australia’s reformed mental health and wellbeing system.
The Medicare Mental Health Centre is supported by funding from North Brisbane Primary Health Network through the Australian Government’s PHN Program. The Caboolture Medicare Mental Health Centre provides the community with a free, safe and welcoming space to access mental health advice, supports and services.
About the service:
The service in Caboolture is funded by the Australian Government, to provide a streamlined approach to support better mental health and social wellbeing across the country. The service is tailored to the needs of the community and provides a combination of peer-led recovery and clinical support.
- The Medicare Mental Health Centre provides a safe, welcoming and supportive environment for people experiencing psychological distress, providing an alternative to presenting to the Emergency Department for low risk individuals, and allowing them to access support from trained mental health professionals within their community, outside a clinical setting.

Role Overview:
- Work in close partnership with the Service Manager to provide leadership, practice development and mentoring sessions to a team of peer workers.
- This position provides instructions, guidance support and actively works with the team to improve identified skill areas.
- Provide direct support to consumers of the service and people walking in for support during distress
- The Peer Service Leader monitors and reviews the systems and processes used in Client Services, and supports the Service Manager to respond to reporting requirements.
- Work collaboratively with key stakeholders, including people with lived experience to continuously improve this new and innovative service.
Requirements:
- Minimum of a Cert IV in a Community services/Mental Health related discipline (ideally a completed Diploma or Degree) and willingness to undertake Safe Side training.
- Ideally demonstrated experience leading a team
- Understanding of lived experience of mental health concerns and/or suicidality and recovery
- Experience and skills in working with people experiencing immediate distress and/or suicide ideation.
- Demonstrated effective listening, communication skills, empathy; and the capacity to relate with others with dignity and respect
- Ability to help guests link in with other relevant community resources and to promote the rights, responsibilities and recovery of program participants
- Ability to implement and facilitate planned activities resulting in greater community access and support
- Demonstrated problem solving and organisational skills
- Proficiency in use of computer and Microsoft office
- Demonstrated ability to work with families, carers, government agencies and community services
- Must be eligible to apply/currently hold a Blue Card
- Must hold/be willing to apply for NDIS worker screening clearance
