Job Description

Our client, a leading biotechnology company, is currently recruiting a Director of Laboratory Services who will infuse the Laboratory Team with their talent, energy and leadership skills. 1) Verify the test procedures perform and establish the laboratory’s test performance characteristics, including the precision and accuracy of each test and test system

2) Establish a quality control program appropriate for the testing performed and establish the parameter for acceptable levels on analytic performance and ensure that these levels are maintained throughout the entire testing process

3) Develop written section policies and procedures in conjunction with the Administrative and Medical directors

4) Ensure the cleanliness and order of the section and the care, calibration and maintenance of the equipment

5) Supervise maintenance of section records

6) Collect statistical data and prepare reports as required, such as monthly statistical tallies, quality control data, quality assurance reviews, instrument maintenance and repairs

7) Enroll in appropriate modules, participate and monitor performance of CAP proficiency testing and analysis of results with corrective action, if necessary

8) Serve as a Technical Consultant to company’s laboratory clients

9) Respect patient and employee confidentiality at all times

10) Complete assignments in a timely manner, thoroughly and appropriately detailed

11) Direct and monitor the day-to-day operations and functions of the laboratory in a fair and consistent manner

12) Supervise the laboratory staff

13) Ensure the criteria based performance evaluations are completed in a timely basis according to laboratory policy

14) Conduct progressive discipline in a timely appropriate manner according to laboratory policies

15) Maintain effective communication with assigned staff members to provide for effective problem resolution

16) Train department staff according to laboratory policies

17) Validate job proficiency on an annual basis and ensure that the staff maintain their competency to perform test procedures and report test results promptly, accurately and proficiently

18) Direct observation of routine patient test performance, including patient preparation, specimen handling, processing and testing

19) Monitor the recording and reporting of test results

20) Review the intermediate test results and worksheets, quality control records, proficiency testing results and preventative maintenance records

21) Direct observation of instrument maintenance and function checks

22) Assess the test performance through testing previously analyzed specimens, internal blind testing and external proficiency testing samples

23) Ensure the staff attendance at mandatory education seminars

24) Maintain a safe working environment

25) Evaluate work performance of section personnel and participate in hiring, disciplining and terminating personnel

26) Utilize policy and procedure manuals and other available reference materials to ensure consistency and accuracy

27) Contribute to and participate on various committees

28) Establish a collaborative effective working relationship with members of the management team constantly striving for the overall success of company

29) Analyze and coordinate work loan and prepare daily departmental assignments relative to workflow

30) Utilize laboratory equipment for optimal workflow and maximal productivity

31) Prepare and analyze section operating, personnel and capital budgets

35) Maintain inventory of equipment, reagents and supplies

36) Evaluates and implements new procedures and methodologies to improve laboratory services and contain cost

37) Research special and alternative programs and options to reduce cost on a regular basis

38) Design and maintain a cost-effective and savings departmental budget on an annual basis

39) Plan and organize the daily operational duties using supportive personnel to maximum cost effective efficiency

40) Perform other duties as assigned

Critical Requirements

1) A university degree is required. Although all candidates are welcome and encouraged to apply, preference will be given to those with degrees in a relevant field

2) Appropriate full-time work experience is mandatory (no students or fresh graduates please)

3) Recent experience in the biotechnology industry is strongly preferred

4) Preference will be given to candidates with recent experience in laboratory management
