Job Summary

We are currently seeking to recruit a Boilermaker to join our highly dynamic workforce within our Simberi Operations Island in New Ireland Province.

The Role

Reporting to the Mobile Maintenance Superintendent; the Boilermaker will perform the functions of a Boilermaker in a safe and environmentally friendly manner

This is an exciting time to join Simberi & St Barbara as we embark on our “Building Brilliance” journey to transform the business and deliver sustainable value. 

This is a FIFO position; the roster is a 15/13 roster. Point of Hire is restricted to Kavieng/Rabaul/Port Moresby/Lae/Mt Hagen or Tabar group of Islands. (Locals are encouraged to apply)

Key responsibilities include:

Technical accountabilities

  • Ensuring achievement of overall equipment targets, by ensuring machines operate with zero unscheduled down time
  • Ensuring effective pre-maintenance and root cause mechanical breakdowns are identified and implementing permanent repairs
  • Troubleshooting of all plant equipment to ensure improved productivity and safety
  • Assist in Installation of new plant, equipment and pipe work including automated machinery
  • Undertaking all fabrication duties to carry out repairs or to enhance plant equipment
  • Contributing to obedience to all OH&S and standard work procedures
  • Maintaining high housekeeping standards within personal work area;
  • Contributing to achieving maximum levels of machine uptime through the efficient and effective maintenance of plant & equipment and project work associated with new installations, the manufacture of fixtures and automotive equipment
  • Assisting in major projects and coordinating smaller projects
  • Undertaking work to maintenance/repair schedule
  • Planning and prioritising of maintenance
  • Ensuring the maintenance of spare parts stores
  • Reporting of mechanical activities to the Maintenance Foreman
  • Undertaking & carrying out other operational tasks as required

Qualifications, skills, and experience required:

  • Behaviour consistent with St Barbara’s Values
  • Trade qualification.
  • Minimum 4 years’ experience in maintaining machinery
  • Welding experience and qualifications.
  • Trade background.
  • Forklift Licence and Drivers Licence
  • Electrical Disconnect / Reconnect licence is desirable
  • Understand relevant engineering standards and associated procedures
  • At least 3-5 years’ experience
  • Relevant qualifications in the maintenance field
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to effectively manage time
  • A continuous improvement approach to all tasks.
  • Developing initiative and problem-solving skills
  • Field experience
  • Prepared to accept responsibility
