Alternate Underground Manager - Zoroastrian

As part of St Barbara’s Leonora province Plan the business has recently acquired Bardoc Gold with the advanced stage Zoroastrian and Aphrodite underground projects. Located 65km north of Kalgoorlie we are pushing forward to develop underground operations at the Zoroastrian deposit with the aim of beginning portal excavation in January 2023. The mine is expected to reach a production rate of 400Ktpa with the ore hauled by road to St Barbara’s Leonora Processing Plant.

Reporting into the Underground Operations Manager we are currently seeking an experienced Alternate Underground Manager to join the team to help drive the development and subsequent operation of this project. This is a permanent / full time opportunity, with the option of being based in Kalgoorlie or FIFO from Perth on an 8-6 / 4-3 roster.

The Opportunity

  • Developing the business plan in line with corporate guidelines and ensuring continuity with the Life of Mine plan.
  • Developing continuous improvement initiatives and delivering them in line with the St Barbara business improvement program.
  • Lead the underground operations at St Barbara’s new mining centre at Zoroastrian.
  • Lead safe work practices by ensuring safe work conditions and practices across the team.
  • Assume regulatory responsibilities as Underground Manager and Senior Site Executive when required
  • Assist in establishing all mine infrastructure to commence underground mining
  • Once operational your focus will turn to managing the operational and technical requirements
  • Direct the underground operations’ mining team and related contractors to execute works in line with contractual obligations to reach agreed business plans.
  • Ensure the underground production operations comply with internal and external policies and legislation.
  • Manage and direct the underground operations team to produce the plans and designs in line with the monthly schedule to deliver to plan.
  • Manage and direct the underground operations in cooperation with the Mining Contractor to align with the delivery of tonnes and ounces against budget.
  • Manage and direct the road train loading and transport operations in cooperation with the Haulage Contractor to align with the delivery of tonnes against budget.
  • Manage the costs associated with the Contractor for the underground operations and the underground operations department.
  • Evaluate the performance of contractors as it relates to underground operations including tracking trends to ensure actions are taken to correct variances and deliver results.
  • Ensure control and delivery of capital expenditure and project scope in line with the St Barbara Capital Approval Process.         
  • Report on all key KPI’s and advancement to mine schedule as well as costs associated with departments.

 What we will expect from you

  • You should feel a strong alignment with St Barbara’s values as you will be required to live them.
  • First Class WA Mine Managers Certificate.
  • A degree qualification in mining engineering or equivalent experience in mining operations.
  • At least ten (10) years relevant experience in mining, with appropriate experience in underground mining.
  • Thorough understanding of statutory reporting requirements.
  • Strong leadership skills including developing direct reports.
  • Financial analytical skills and commercial acumen.
  • High energy with strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Mine startup exposure an advantage
  • Deswik experience an advantage
  • You are able to produce a National Police Clearance (valid within the last 12 months) for site access purposes.
  • You have a current unencumbered ‘C’ Class Drivers Licence.
