Job Summary

We are currently seeking to recruit a Plant Metallurgist to join our highly dynamic workforce within our Simberi Operations in Simberi Island in New Ireland Province.

The Role

Reporting to the Senior Metallurgist, The Plant Metallurgist contributes to optimise the extraction and processing of Simberi Au in the Simberi Process Plant of Simberi Gold Operation. Simberi Gold Operation is designed to process up to 3 million tonnes per annum (3Mtpa) of dry ore feed. The operation is design for twenty-four hours per day, seven days per week, with an average feed rate of three hundred and seventy-five (375 t/h), and a design plant availability of 91.3%. Ore is sourced exclusively from Sorowar ore deposit or alternatively as a blend of Sorowar ore and ore sourced from numerous Simberi satellite ore bodies.

This is a FIFO position; the roster is a 15/13 roster. Point of Hire is restricted to Kavieng/Rabaul/Port Moresby/Lae/Mt Hagen, Buka, Madang, Goroka, Alotau, Wapenamanda, Popondetta & Hoskins or Tabar group of Islands. (Locals are encouraged to apply)

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

Technical Accountabilities

  • Contributing to the health and safety of all personnel in the Processing Department.
  • Ensuring systems and procedures within the processing department are adhered to and followed on an ongoing basis.
  • Contributing to ensuring that the Processing Department delivers to plan in respect of production, recovery and cost per tonne.
  • Maintain close liaison with Mine Geologists to optimize mill feed grade.
  • Maintain close liaison with Process Plant Maintenance and Operating teams to optimize plant availability and utilisation, respectively.
  • Contributing to ensuring that the Process Department meets it’s environmental, community and statutory obligations.
  • Contributing to ensuring a constructive and creative environment for business improvement within the Processing Department.
  • Contributing to timely and accurate reporting within the Processing Department.

Scheduling accountabilities

  • Managing the best use of your own time and other resources to achieve the required outcomes.

People accountabilities

  • Ensuring own work performance meets all role requirements; and taking appropriate professional development actions.

Qualifications, skills, and experience required:

Essential

  • Behaviour consistent with St Barbara’s Values
  • A degree qualification in a metallurgy or chemical engineering discipline
  • At least (2) two years' experience in the mining industry, with appropriate experience in gold processing
  • High level of enthusiasm for the work with high performance goals for self and team
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Good problem-solving skills.
  • Good time management skills
  • Work effectively with people
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Proficient in computers including Microsoft Office applications

Desirable

  • Experience with CITEC, SCADA, PRONTO and PI systems
  • Administrative skills
