We are currently seeking a Dispatch Operator to join our Mining team on a permanent full-time position at our Simberi Operation. Your work location is Papua New Guinea, working a 14/7 Roster from Kavieng, Rabaul, Port Moresby, Lae, Mt Hagen, Buka, Madang, Goroka, Alotau, Wapenamanda, Popondetta, Hoskins, Wewak, Vanimo, or Tabar group of Islands. Reporting to the Senior Dispatch Engineer, this position is responsible for facilitating daily mine plan execution in the safest, most efficient manner, while always being mindful of continuous improvement opportunities. This will be accomplished using a IVMS System.

The opportunity

Technical Accountabilities

  • Ensuring the efficient use of the truck haulage fleet by constant monitoring, adjustments to Dispatch optimization algorithms and manual interventions, as required.
  • Issuing clear and concise work instructions to Load and Haul operators.
  • Providing process advice to line leaders to identify and deliver sustainable improvements.
  • Ensuring material movement priorities are executed as per the Mine Engineering Daily Plan.
  • Working closely with the Mine Operations Data Analyst, to continuously update shift production data and conditions to ensure an extremely high level of accuracy in the data captured.
  • Working with Modular Mining and Anglo Performance Assurance teams to implement improvement opportunities.
  • Maintaining all mine model parameters (i.e., new roads, dumps, maps, etc.) to ensure the accurate function of the Dispatch system.
  • Liaising with Mine Maintenance personnel to ensure the efficient transfer of equipment to and from an operational state.
  • Liaising with Mine Technology Specialists to ensure timely and accurate reporting of system defects.
  • Holding Heavy Equipment Operators accountable for timely and accurate entries into the FMS.
  • Using systems to continuously monitor the Mine for hazards, then reporting and acting accordingly.
  • Facilitating the smooth and efficient transition between normal mining operations and shutdown states (i.e., shift changes, blasting, weather stoppages, industrial actions, etc.).
  • Providing detailed commentary and contextual information to daily shift reports to explain variations to plan.
  • Receiving emergency calls and acting according to Mining Emergency management plan; and
  • Working with Mine Operations and Engineering teams to assess and improve KPI’s.

Scheduling Accountabilities

  • Monitoring of all trucks or equipment’s for operational and technical teams regarding task and priority scheduling to optimise efficiency.
  • Ensuring that the Mining Department develops and uses effective plans that derive from and support the Company and site plans.

People Accountabilities

  • Ensuring staff resources are maximised and staff members undertake appropriate training and development, so they are skilled efficiently to perform allocated duties.
  • Providing direction and act as a technical reference point and mentor for staff while ensuring work outputs are in line with strategic and business plans.
  • Implementing and ongoing monitoring of performance and development review plans for all direct reports.
  •  Initiating of any disciplinary action or reward recognition for staff under direct supervision within the work unit.
  • Promoting and adhere to Occupational Health and Safety Policy and Procedures through consistently demonstrating and encouraging safe work practices.
  •  Identifying training requirements of subordinates through consultation with the employees and the Simberi Gold Company Training Department
  • Using established training methods and in conjunction with the Training Department train subordinates to achieve competency in the area identified and within the scope of their position

Essential

  • Minimum of a Grade Twelve (12) academic completion
  • A minimum of two (2) years’ experience working in a Mining environment
  • Working experience of multiple shovel/drill/truck/track operations
  • Strong analytical, problem solving and troubleshooting skills
  • Strong skills with the Microsoft Office Suite of programs
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the specific ability to be clear and concise with radio communications
  • Conflict Management skills, including root cause identification of issues
  • Natural leadership skills, with the ability to informally coach and performance manage others
  • Possess a high level of self-motivation and passion for technology
  • Skilled at planning tasks, setting priorities, and altering priorities, using sound decision making.
  • Excellent time management skills with the ability to multitask in a high-pressure environment; and
  • Proven commitment to Safety, Health, and Environmental Standards
