We are currently seeking a Senior Human Resource Officer to join our team, permanent full-time position at our Simberi Operation. Your work location is Papua New Guinea, working a 21/14 Roster from Kavieng, Rabaul, Port Moresby, Lae, Mt Hagen, Madang, Goroka, Alotau, Wapenamanda, Popondetta, Hoskins, Wewak, Vanimo Tabar group of Islands. (Locals are encouraged to apply).

Reporting to the Human Resource Superintendent, this position supports to deliver on Human Resources Systems and Processes and to provide efficient and timely Human Resources support and advice to St Barbara Simberi Operations.

The opportunity

Technical accountabilities

  • Maintaining positive work ethic and an eagerness to join the industry.

  • Demonstrating willingness to take on new challenges and responsibilities and learn new skills.
  • Maintaining a fair and consistent application of Human Resources policies, procedures, and processes.
  • Coordinating all People Systems and Processes and provide advice to stakeholders as appropriate on (Recruitment, On-boarding, Work Performance, Career Development, Exit the Company, Training and Development, Discipline, Leave and Workers Compensation).
  • Undertaking engagement of contractors for Simberi Operations including accurate maintenance of the contractor database.
  • Supporting the establishment of the desired culture across the Company through teamwork and participation.
  • Taking initiative and application of problem-solving techniques and conduct investigations where required.
  • Coordinating Workplace Consultative Committee Meeting on a monthly per schedule.
  • Providing support to Human Resources Superintendent in supervision, developing, planning, coordination and monitoring all HR functions.
  • Ensure effective management of Employee data and information is updated in a timely manner.
  • Ensure weekly and monthly reports are completed in a timely manner and communicated.

Scheduling accountabilities

  • Managing the best use of own time to achieve the required outcomes.

  • Managing outputs and development of the team and all Team Members.

Essential

  • Behaviour consistent with St Barbara’s Values
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources / Business Management
  • Ability to work with people from different backgrounds and cultures
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines on multiple tasks and enthusiasm for the work with high performance goals
  • Be prepared to challenge the norm, drive continuous improvement, and demonstrate experience in implementing best practice using a hands-on approach
  • Well developed Microsoft Word and Excel skills 

Desirable

  • Behaviour consistent with St Barbara’s Values
  • Five (5) years relevant work experience in Human Resources/Training and Development
  • Have a high level of attention to detail.
  • Some experience in investigations and disciplinary management
  • Highly effective interpersonal and written communication skills
  • High energy with a positive attitude
  • Build and maintain relationships across all levels of the business.
  • Previous relevant work experience in mining or heavy industry, on site
