Job Summary

We are currently seeking to recruit a Mine Geologist to join our highly dynamic workforce within our Simberi Operations. The role is responsible for grade control delineation, tracking of pit ore production and stockpile material from mine to mill to a high standard.

The Role

Reporting to the Geology Superintendent, the incumbent will provide accurate and timely ore delineation processes and produce ore dig block estimations and reporting to facilitate short to medium term planning. The incumbent is accountable for complying with QAQC standards for geological data collection, integrity and interpretation. The incumbent would be responsible for tracking ore production and stockpile from mine to mill to an accurate and high standard.

The incumbent will provide training and development to Graduate Geologists as required and provide input to build and improve grade control systems and procedures

This is a FIFO position; the roster is a 15/13 roster. Point of Hire is restricted to Kavieng/Rabaul/Port Moresby/Lae/Mt Hagen or Tabar group of Islands. (Locals are encouraged to apply)

Key Roles and responsibilities include

  • Optimise Ore Grade and Delivery – dilution control and compliance to plan.
  • ROM stockpile control and feed to mill as per blend plan.
  • Pre- and Post-blast mapping on benches and wall batters.
  • RC Grade Control Drilling - RC grade control drilling designs and performance tracking.
  • Data Entry & QA/QC – validation of geological data, RC drilling, sample and assay QA/QC.
  • Grade Control Ore Block Design - using geological orebody understanding to ensure sound interpretation of continuity and impact of material type and structure.
  • Input to weekly, monthly and 3 monthly planning process – mine production and mill blend plan.
  • Actively contribute to the site Safety and Environmental policies and initiatives as directed by the Senior Geologist & Geology Superintendent.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience required

  • Behaviour consistent with St Barbara’ Values
  • Bachelor’s degree in Geology
  • At least two (2) years relevant work experience in an Open Pit Geology role
  • Working knowledge of mining software, preferably Datamine, Vulcan or MineSight
  • Ability to communicate across functional areas
