We are currently seeking to recruit a HFO Electrician to join our team. permanent full-time position at our Simberi Operation. Your work location is Papua New Guinea, working a 15/13 Roster from Kavieng, Rabaul, Port Moresby, Lae, Mt Hagen, Buka, Madang, Goroka, Alotau, Wapenamanda, Popondetta, Hoskins, Vanimo, Wewak or Tabar group of Islands. Reporting to the HFO Supervisor, the HFO Electrician will carry out electrical maintenance work on all engines and equipment associated with the HFO Power Plant during the shift according to company policies, procedures to ensure continuous and efficient production of electrical power to the Mine and Process Plant.
The opportunity
Technical accountabilities
- Assemble, install, test, and maintain electrical or electronic wiring, equipment, appliances, apparatus, and fixtures, using hand tools and power tools.
- Diagnose malfunctioning systems, apparatus, and components, using test equipment and hand tools, to locate the cause of a breakdown and correct the problem.
- Connect wires to circuit breakers, transformers, or other components.
- Inspect electrical systems, equipment, and components to identify hazards, defects, and the need for adjustment or repair, and to ensure compliance with codes.
- Test electrical systems and continuity of circuits in electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures, using testing devices such as ohmmeters, voltmeters, and oscilloscopes, to ensure compatibility and safety of system.
- Perform effective trouble shooting to identify hazards or malfunctions and repair damaged units.
- Able to interpret relevant parts manuals/ operating procedures and follow safe work procedures.
- Maintain well-functioning electrical connections to minimise the probability of accidents.
- Complying with Company policies and procedures in particular safe work procedures.
Scheduling accountabilities
- Managing effective use of available resources, including own time, in support of the delivery of the Power Plant team/crew.
People accountabilities
- Participating in training provided by the business.
- Ensure you report any undesired events, unsafe practices or near misses to your direct supervisor immediately.
- Ensuring you are at work on time and be fit for work.

We would love to hear from you if you have:
Essential
- Behaviour consistent with St Barbara’s Values
- Have a NATTB trade certificate in Electrical Mechanic or equivalent
- NEA Electrician’s License
- At least 3-5 years’ field experience
- Problem solving skills and be competent in electrical fault finding
- Good operational collaboration with mechanical and other departments
- Clear spoken and written English
Desirable
- Best workmanship and dedication to complete tasks
- Physically fit and healthy
- The ability to work shift work and respond to calls
