We are currently seeking a Superintendent Metallurgy to join our team. permanent full-time position at our Simberi Operation. Your work location is Papua New Guinea, working a 21/14 Roster from Kavieng, Rabaul, Port Moresby, Lae, Mt Hagen, Madang, Goroka, Alotau, Wapenamanda, Popondetta, Hoskins, Wewak, Vanimo, or Tabar group of Islands. Reporting to the Processing Manager, the Metallurgist Superintendent is responsible to support the Processing Manager in their daily tasks to safely maximise the recovery and throughput of gold from the run of mine ore.
Manage the Metallurgical and Laboratory function within the Processing Department. Mentor, encourage and promote confidence in the local workforce.
Safely achieve maximum gold recovery from ore delivered to the ROM in a manner consistent with the Company’s Vision and Values

The opportunity
Technical Accountabilities
- Ensuring the health and safety of all personnel associated with the Metallurgical and Laboratory function within the Processing Department.
- Ensuring that the fit-for-purpose systems in place in the Metallurgical Department are operating properly.
- Ensuring that the Metallurgy Section delivers to plan in respect of gold recovery and cost per tonne in relation to reagent consumables.
- Maximising the gold recovery from the ore delivered to the ROM.
- Ensuring that the Processing function meets its environmental and community obligations and is considered a welcome guest in host communities
- Meeting all relevant statutory obligations.
- Assisting the Manager Processing to build and maintain an environment for business improvement across the Processing Department.
- Ensuring timely, accurate reporting of Processing function performance to the Manager Processing and other internal and external parties
- Contributing productively as a member of the Processing Department Leadership Team
Scheduling accountabilities
- Ensuring that the Processing function develops and uses effective plans that derive from and support the Processing Department and Simberi Operations plans
People accountabilities
- Building and developing an effective Metallurgical and Laboratory team
- Ensuring the contract partners associated with the Processing Department are well aligned with St Barbara’s Vision and Values and have the culture, motivation, and capability to deliver to promise

Essential
- Behaviour consistent with St Barbara’s Values
- Tertiary qualification in Metallurgy.
- At least 5 years’ experience in the gold industry, with at least 2 years in similar roles
- Strong ability to lead and work effectively with people
- High level of enthusiasm for the work with high performance goals for self and team
- Strong interpersonal, influencing and communication skills
Desirable
- Current PNG Drivers Licence
