We are currently seeking a Paramedic to join our team on a permanent full-time position at our Simberi Operation. Your work location is Papua New Guinea, working a 21/14 Roster from Kavieng, Rabaul, Buka, Port Moresby, Lae, Mt Hagen, Madang, Goroka, Alotau, Wapenamanda, Popondetta, Hoskins, Vanimo, or Tabar group of Islands. (Locals are encouraged to apply).

Reporting to the Site Medical Officer, the Paramedic will be responsible for providing emergency medical care and stabilizing patients before they reach a hospital.

The opportunity

Technical accountabilities

  • Provide immediate emergency response and advanced life support to injured and ill personnel.
  • Assess patients’ injury severity and type and quickly begin appropriate medical procedures.
  • Operate medical equipment such as bag valve mask resuscitators, external defibrillators and electrocardiograms for advanced life support applications.
  • Administer drugs as appropriate and necessary via injection, intravenous procedures or oral administration under the direction of Site Medical Officers/Physician.
  • Assess, record and discuss patient injuries and condition with the Physicians, including any treatments provided and reactions to treatments or drugs.
  • Coordinate medical evacuations including driving the mobile intensive care unit when required.
  • Communicate and coordinate with dispatchers, fire department personnel, police and other emergency medical team members as needed to ensure that all applicable personnel are prepared to receive the patient and ensure proper treatment.
  • Supporting the establishment of the desired safety culture across the Company

Scheduling accountabilities

  • Assist with the implementation of the Simberi Gold Mine Clinic Strategic Objectives and assist the HSS Department achieve its Strategic plans.

People accountabilities

  • Provide revision training for field medics on first aid, Medivac procedure and medical treatments as required.
  • Provide job specific first aid training to staff as required.
  • Contributing to building, developing, and leading an effective Medical Team.

We would love to hear from you if you have​:

Essential

  • Behaviour consistent with St Barbara’s Values
  • Diploma or Degree in a relevant field of allied health
  • CPR Certification
  • Have Paramedical training
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in a similar role
  • Strong clinical assessment and decision-making skills
  • Anility to work independently in a remote setting
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to effectively manage time
  • Current PNG Drivers Licence.

Desirable

  • Experience in mining, oil and gas or remote site operations.
  • Certification in BLS and ACLS.
