We are currently seeking a Senior Metallurgist to join our team, permanent full-time position at our Simberi Operation. Your work location is Papua New Guinea, working a 15/13 Roster from Kavieng/Rabaul/PortMoresby/Lae/MtHagen/Buka/Madang/Goroka/Alotau/Wapenamanda/Popondetta/Hoskins/ Vanimo/ Wewak or Tabar group of Islands. (Locals are encouraged to apply).

Reporting to the Superintendent Metallurgy.    

The Senior Metallurgist is responsible to support the Metallurgist Superintendent and supervise the Metallurgist function within the Processing Department to enable to department to safely achieve maximum gold recovery and throughput from ore delivered to the ROM.

Safely achieve maximum gold recovery from ore delivered to the ROM in a manner consistent with the Company’s Vision and Values. 

The opportunity

Technical accountabilities 

  • Ensuring the health and safety of all personnel associated with the Metallurgical function within the Processing Department.
  • Ensuring that the fit-for-purpose systems in place in the Metallurgical Department are operating properly.
  • Ensuring that the Metallurgical function delivers to plan in respect of accounting, quality control, projects, circuit analysis and improvement, production, recovery and cost per tonne.
  • Assist the Metallurgy Superintendent to maximise the gold recovery from the ore delivered to the ROM through robust analytical processes both on daily and longer term basis.
  • Ensuring that the Processing Department meets is environmental and community obligations and is considered a welcome guest in host communities.
  • Ensuring a constructive and creative environment for business and operational improvement within the Metallurgical function of the Processing Department.
  • Ensuring timely, accurate reporting as required by the Metallurgical function.
  • Contributing productivity as a member of the Processing Department Leadership Team and acting as Metallurgy Superintendent as required.

Scheduling accountabilities

  • Ensuring that the Metallurgical function develops and uses effective plans that derive from annual planning and support both Mining and the Processing department.

People accountabilities

  • Building and developing an effective Metallurgical team.
  • Ensuring the contract partners associated with the Processing Department are well aligned with St Barbara Vision and Values and have the culture, motivation and capability to deliver to promise.

Essential

  • Behaviour consistent with St Barbara’s Values.
  • Tertiary qualification in Metallurgy
  • At least five (5) years’ experience in metallurgical roles in the mining industry
  • Strong ability to lead and work effectively with people
  • Strong interpersonal, influencing and communication skills
  • Computer skills, report writing and presentation
  • Ability to work independently
  • Pays attention to detail
  • Good time management skills

Desirable

  • Ability to perform duties as required for Metallurgy Superintendent role.
