We are currently seeking a Mobile Maintenance Fitter Machinist to join our team. permanent full-time position at our Simberi Operation. Your work location is Papua New Guinea, working a 15/13 Roster from Kavieng, Rabaul, Port Moresby, Lae, Mt Hagen, Madang, Goroka, Alotau, Wapenamanda, Popondetta, Hoskins, Wewak, Vanimo, or Tabar group of Islands. Reporting to the Mobile Maintenance Supervisor, the primary responsibility of the Machinist is to provide support in mechanical maintenance of Mobile Fleet Equipment (as designated), carry out component repairs and line boring.(e.g., components trucks, loaders, excavators, drills) and perform precision machining of components as required to ensure safe and efficient operation of mining fleet equipment, while ensuring health, safety, environmental, community relations and quality workmanship standards are maintained, all for the best value. Ensure adherence to statutory requirements as a minimum standard.

The opportunity
Technical Accountabilities
- Perform scheduled and unscheduled line boring of components as required
- Conduct precision machining, fabrication, or modification of mechanical components using lathes, milling machines, and other workshop equipment.
- Maintain accurate tooling equipment and work orders through the CMMS (Pronto).
- Adhere to site safety procedures, policies and permit-to-work systems.
- Inspect and troubleshoot hydraulic, pneumatic, and mechanical systems.
- Collaborate with maintenance planning teams to identify and resolve recurring faults or equipment reliability issues.
- Support other trades in major overhauls or breakdowns as required.
- Maintain high housekeeping standards within personal work area.
- Identification and action of safety issues affecting the workplace.
- Communicate and report mechanical activities to the Supervisor.
- Carry out other operational tasks as required.

Essential
- Behaviour consistent with St Barbara’s Values
- Technical Trades Qualification in Fitter Machining
- Minimum 4 years’ experience operating line boring equipment.
- Minimum 4 years’ experience operating industrial lathes
- Minimum 4 years’ experience in a mining or heavy industrial environment
- Understand relevant engineering standards and associated procedures.
- Ability to read equipment manuals, drawings and follow instruction.
- Pneumatics and hydraulics experience.
- Strong technical knowledge in fabrication and repair of heavy equipment components.
- Self-motivated and disciplined with strong communication skills and the ability to effectively manage time.
- A continuous improvement approach to all tasks and developing initiative and problem-solving skills.
- Have extensive field experience and always prepared to accept responsibility.
