We are currently seeking a Leading Hand Rubber Liner to join our team. permanent full-time position at our Simberi Operation. Your work location is Papua New Guinea, working a 15/13 Roster from Kavieng, Rabaul, Port Moresby, Lae, Mt Hagen, Buka, Madang, Goroka, Alotau, Wapenamanda, Popondetta, Hoskins, Wewak, Vanimo, or Tabar group of Islands. (Locals are encouraged to apply).

Reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor, the Leading Hand Rubber Liner is responsible to supervise the Rubber Team to ensure provision of effective and responsive maintenance support to Simberi Operations to safely achieve the equipment availability and asset utilisation essential for optimum process operations.

The opportunity

Technical Accountabilities

  • Ensuring own health and safety as well as that of all other workers, identifying and maintaining safe work practices and completing all required safety training.
  • Ensuring root cause of mechanical breakdowns are identified.
  • Assisting with troubleshooting of all plant equipment are improved productivity and safety.
  • Checking installations of new plant equipment and remedial works on conveyor systems and rubber lining.
  • Checking teams completed works to avoid unplanned breakdowns and re-work.
  • Ensuring housekeeping standards are maintained within personal work area.
  • Ensuring maximum levels of machine uptime are achieved through the efficient and effective maintenance of plant & equipment and project work associated with new installations, the manufacture of fixtures and automotive equipment.
  • Assisting in major projects and coordinating smaller projects.
  • Ensuring prompt actions are taken and closing out of safety issues affecting the workplace.
  • Checking required work to do maintenance/repair schedule.
  • Ensuring planning and prioritising of maintenance activities.
  • Ensuring spare parts are maintained in stores.
  • Ensuring communication and reporting of mechanical activities, breakdowns and delays to the Maintenance Supervisor.
  • Undertaking rubber lining and belt splicing tasks as required.
  • Ensuring supervision of the daily activities for the rubber crew onsite.

Scheduling Accountabilities

  • Managing effective use of available resources, including own time, in support of the delivery of the team/crew.
  • Reporting HSEC incidents and investigated to identify appropriate controls required.

People Accountabilities

  • Contributing to the development of capability within the team/crew.
  • Ensuring all team members are accountable for compliance of implemented Health, Safety, and Environmental policies, operating procedures, and compliance to other external agency regulatory requirements.
  • Ensuring own work performance meets all role requirements; and taking appropriate professional development actions.
  • Ensuring outputs and development of the team/crew.
  • Promote and adhere to the company’s internal methodologies, policies, procedures and standards by consistently maintaining a high quality of work across all allocated functions.

We would love to hear from you if you have​:

Essential

  • Behaviour consistent with St Barbara’s Values
  • Trade qualification Cert 2 minimum (Polymer Processing) Cert 3 preferred
  • Minimum 4 years’ experience in maintaining conveyors
  • Basic fitting knowledge
  • Trade background – Rubber lining, conveyor belt splicing and repairs
  • Forklift Licence and Drivers Licence
  • Understand relevant engineering standards and associated procedures
  • Familiar with QA/QC processes in conveyor belt replacement and repairs
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to effectively manage time
  • A continuous improvement approach to all tasks.
  • Developing initiative and problem-solving skills
  • Field experience
