We are currently seeking a Tradesman Carpenter – Camps Maintenance to join our team. This is a permanent full-time position for our Simberi Operation. Your work location is Papua New Guinea, working on a 15/13 Roster. Point of hire is restricted to Kavieng, Rabaul, Port Moresby, Lae and Tabar group of Islands. (Locals are encouraged to apply).

Reporting to the Camps Maintenance Supervisor, the successful incumbent is responsible for performing general carpentry and maintenance tasks to ensure the safe, functional, and well-maintained condition of all camp facilities.

The opportunity

Technical accountabilities

  • Perform general carpentry work, including constructing, repairing, and maintaining camp structures, furniture, doors, partitions, and fittings.
  • Conduct routine inspections of wooden structures and camp facilities to identify maintenance needs or safety hazards.
  • Carry out preventative maintenance to ensure the integrity and safety of camp infrastructure.
  • Follow technical drawings, blueprints, and work instructions to complete tasks accurately.
  • Operate and maintain carpentry tools, machinery, and equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Coordinate with the maintenance team to schedule and prioritize repair and construction tasks.
  • Respond promptly to repair requests or maintenance issues raised by camp management or occupants.
  • Ensure all carpentry work meets quality standards and complies with company HSE policies and procedures.
  • Maintain accurate records of work completed, materials used, and maintenance logs.
  • Provide practical solutions for minor modifications or improvements to camp facilities.
  • Support other tradespeople and maintenance staff as required to ensure efficient operations 

Scheduling accountabilities 

  • Plan and organise daily carpentry tasks according to maintenance schedules, work orders, and priority requests.
  • Coordinate with the camp maintenance supervisor to ensure all tasks are aligned with operational requirements.
  • Ensure timely completion of routine inspections, preventative maintenance, and repair work. 

 People Accountabilities

  • Work collaboratively with the maintenance team and other tradespeople to ensure efficient completion of tasks.
  • Provide guidance or support to junior maintenance staff or apprentices where applicable.
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors, camp management, and team members regarding work progress, safety issues, or resource needs.
  • Maintain professional conduct and represent the maintenance team positively to camp occupants and management.

We would love to hear from you if you have​:

Essential

  • Behaviour consistent with St Barbara’s Values
  • Trade qualifications in Carpentry (NATTB)
  • Knowledge of carpentry and building maintenance
  • Ability to read building specifications, blueprints and as builds 
  • Knowledge of safe operation of basic hand and power tools
  • Knowledge of workplace safety and safe lifting and handling procedures 

Desirable

  • Mining industry experience
  • Previous experience working on a remote mine site or camp environment.
  • Joinery experience.
