We are currently seeking a Communications & External Affairs Officer to join our team. permanent full-time position at our Simberi Operation. Your work location is Papua New Guinea, working a 21/14 Roster from Kavieng, Rabaul, Port Moresby, Lae, Mt Hagen, Madang, Goroka, Alotau, Wapenamanda, Popondetta, Hoskins, Wewak, Vanimo, or Tabar group of Islands. The Communication and External Affairs (C&EA) officer shall promote a positive public image and control the dissemination of information on the company’s behalf.
Everyone at St Barbara Limited is required to understand and act in accordance with St Barbara’s values and policies and meet all relevant internal and external compliance obligations. The role incumbent and manager will identify and review the specific compliance requirements of the role.
The Opportunity
Technical Accountabilities
- Ensure a healthy and safe work environment and that work standards are maintained and enhanced
- Develop and maintain effective communication strategies, channels, tools, templates, and procedures to continuously surpass expectations
- Managing internal communications
- Coordinate the communication of strategies, business results and messages from senior leadership
- Drafting and placing content for mass media and internal company platforms/tools
- Responding to media enquiries and performing media outreach to achieve brand placement in publications
- Fostering relationships with advocates and key stakeholders
- Organising mine visits for government officials and other stakeholders
- Organising internal and external events and campaigns
- Assisting the leadership team in managing communication in a crisis
- Ensuring that communication material aligns with brand standards
- Maintaining digital media archives including photos and videos
- Monitoring media coverage on the business
- Monitoring, evaluating, and creating reports detailing successes and failures of communications events and campaigns
- Deliver clear messages which motivate our employees and communities to act in unison towards meeting business objectives.
- Proven ability to film, record, and produce professional-quality video content tailored for corporate use and external presentations.
- Skilled in graphic design for media publications and external events, with a focus on visually impactful and brand-aligned content

Essential
- Behaviour consistent with St Barbara’s Values
- Bachelor of Communication or relevant field
- 4 – 5 years communication experience
- Proven experience as communications and external affairs officer
- Proficient command of English and Tok Pisin
- Excellent oral, written and presentation skills
- Experience in social media platforms and content production
- Well-developed knowledge in the use MS Office; photo and Video-editing and audio editing software is an asset
- Experience in Mining and or Heavy Industry is an advantage
