Senior Mine Planning Engineer

Reporting to the Technical Services Superintendent you will be responsible for providing technical and professional leadership to support Simberi Operations develop optimised, accurate and consistent medium-term plans and designs aligned with St Barbara’s business strategy.

The opportunity

• Undertaking ownership and responsibility for the development, implementation, and ongoing management of the medium term mine plans and associated projects.
• Assisting in the production of the annual three-year budget and operating capital cost estimates.
• Delivering timely, optimised, and accurate monthly/quarterly forecasts aligned with the approved budget and Life of Mine (LOM) plans for Simberi Operations.
• Coordinating timely, accurate, and transparent reporting through the Mine Technical Services (MTS) Department to all relevant stakeholders.
• Undertaking design, coordination or participating in major mining projects in collaboration with MTS, Mining Operations, and contractors.
• Checking and updating strategic mine designs to ensure safe, practical, and efficient construction and execution.
• Providing training, coaching, and mentoring engineers to support capability development.
• Contributing to ensure fit-for-purpose medium-term planning systems are in place, effectively operated, and continuously improved.
• Supporting the Senior Strategic Planning Engineer and the Technical Services Superintendent in the development of strategic mine plans, including Life of Mine plans, cut-off grade estimation Mineral Resource and Ore Reserve preparation.
• Providing troubleshooting support and liaising with suppliers to facilitate timely services.

We would love to hear from you if you have​:

• Degree in Mining Engineering or equivalent.
• Extensive experience in the mining industry.
• Experience in mine design/planning and scheduling software.
• Ability to lead a group of technical professionals.
• Strong technical communication and influencing skills.
• Proactive with an ability to work with minimal supervision.
• Previous expat experience in a developing country & challenging environment would be desirable.
• Understanding of regulatory requirements relevant mining and processing operations in PNG would be desirable.
