We are currently seeking 2x Health & Hygiene Advisor to join our team, this is a Full Time - Permanent position at our Simberi Operation. Your work location is Papua New Guinea, working a 21/14 Roster from Kavieng, Rabaul, Port Moresby, Lae, Mt Hagen, Buka, Madang, Goroka, Alotau, Wapenamanda, Popondetta, Hoskins, Wewak, Vanimo & the Tabar group of Islands. Reporting to the Health & Hygiene Specialist, the Health & Hygiene Advisor responsible for supporting the health, hygiene, and safety of mine site personnel by monitoring workplace conditions, conducting health inspections, and implementing preventative measures. This role ensures compliance with occupational health, hygiene, and environmental standards, helping to maintain a safe and healthy working environment for all employees.
The opportunity
Technical accountabilities
- Conduct workplace exposure inspections to identify health hazards and ensure compliance with occupational health standards.
- Able to independently conduct field sampling (noise, dust, chemicals), within the mine site.
- Implement and maintain health and hygiene programs, including sanitation, pest control, and disease prevention measures.
- Assist in incident investigations related to health and hygiene, providing technical input and recommending corrective actions.
- Maintain accurate records and reports of monitoring results, inspections, and compliance checks.
- Ensure safe use, calibration, and maintenance of hygiene and health monitoring equipment.
- Advise supervisors and employees on best practices and technical standards for workplace hygiene and occupational health.
- Support the development and delivery of health and hygiene training programs for site personnel.
- Assist in regulatory audits and compliance checks with relevant health and safety legislation
Scheduling accountabilities
- Plan and coordinate routine health and hygiene inspections across all site areas according to regulatory and company requirements.
- Schedule workplace sampling and monitoring activities (e.g., air quality, dust, noise,) to ensure timely assessments.
- Arrange and deliver health and hygiene training sessions for site personnel in alignment with operational schedules.
- Maintain a calendar of preventive maintenance, calibration, and testing of hygiene monitoring equipment.
- Coordinate medical surveillance and employee health checks in consultation with HR and the site medical team.
- Ensure timely reporting of inspection results, incident follow-ups, and corrective actions.
- Adjust schedules as required to accommodate operational changes, site access restrictions, or urgent health concerns.
- Arrange and deliver Health and Hygiene Awareness programs
- Plan and coordinate in Health Lifestyle onsite
People accountabilities
- Provide guidance and technical support to site personnel on health, hygiene, and safe working practices.
- Promote a positive health and hygiene culture across the workforce, encouraging compliance with standards and procedures
- Collaborate with supervisors, team leaders, and managers to address workplace health concerns and implement corrective action
- Assist in coaching and mentoring junior staff or trainees on health and hygiene practices. Act as a point of contact for health and hygiene queries and provide practical advice to employees
- Support cross-functional teams in achieving health and hygiene objectives and improving overall workplace safety
- Participate in toolbox talks, workshops, and awareness sessions, helping to educate employees on occupational hygiene issues
- Foster team collaboration by working closely with HSE, medical, and operational teams to implement safety initiatives.

We would love to hear from you if you have:
Essential
- Behaviour consistent with St Barbara’s Values.
- Bachelor in Occupational Health, Environmental Health Environmental Science relate field.
- Relevant health, hygiene, or safety certifications (e.g., First Aid, CPR, occupational hygiene courses)
- Minimum 2–3 years’ experience in occupational health, hygiene, or environmental monitoring, preferably within mining or industrial operations and have industrial training experience.
- Experience in workplace inspections, sampling, and monitoring dust, noise, air, and water quality or a new graduate and willing to learn.
- Knowledge of regulatory compliance, workplace health standards, Occupational Exposure standard
- Competence in using hygiene monitoring equipment and conducting analyses.
- Ability to identify hazards, assess risks, and implement corrective measures.
- Strong record-keeping, reporting, and data analysis skills
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety and compliance.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills to engage with employees at all levels.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a remote or operational environment
- Experience in using Occupational Hygiene Software preferably INX Inhealth System
Desirable
- Experience in a mining or resource industry setting.
- Knowledge of environmental management, community impacts, and sustainability practices.
- Familiarity with occupational hygiene software or reporting systems.
- Previous experience in training, coaching, or mentoring staff on health and hygiene practices.
- Certification in occupational hygiene or equivalent health and safety qualifications.
