We are currently seeking a Project Coordinator to join our team. permanent full-time position at our Simberi Operation. Your work location is Papua New Guinea, working a 21/14 roster from Kavieng, Rabaul, Port Moresby, Lae, Mt Hagen, Buka, Madang, Goroka, Alotau, Wapenamanda, Popondetta, Hoskins or Tabar group of Islands. (Locals are encouraged to apply).

Reporting to the Projects & Services Superintendent, the purpose of this role is supporting the operations and community departments focusing on projects across site including but not limited to community, maintenance, and infrastructure upgrades, improvements, and developments. Key role accountabilities are to ensure site projects are implemented successfully by scoping, planning, scheduling, and executing safely within budget and timeframe.

The opportunity

Technical Accountabilities

  • Actively supervise work areas to ensure work is carried out safely, in accordance with the PNG Mine Safety
  • Act, SGCL Safety System, Safety Policies and Procedures and SGCL Environment policies and all departmental operating procedures
  • Support Business Development and Contracts team as part of contractor management
  • Promote culture of open communication within all levels of department and that all employees comply with SGCL policies and procedures
  • Managing effective use of available resources, including own time, in support of the delivery of the site projects objectives
  • Coordinate project management activities, resources, equipment, and information
  • Liaise with stakeholders to identify and define requirements, scope, and objectives
  • Assign tasks to internal and external teams and assist with schedule management
  • Make sure that stakeholders’ needs are met as projects evolve
  • Monitor project progress and handle any issues that arise in a timely manner
  • Act as the point of contact and communicate project status to all participants
  • Create and maintain comprehensive project documentation, plans and reports
  • Ensure standards and requirements are met through conducting quality assurance tests
  • Produce high quality technical construction engineering markups for associated projects
  • Ability to learn new technical skills in relation to project management
  • Execution of mechanical, structural, civil and maintenance projects
  • Have a firm understanding of construction activities and processes
  • Desirable but not mandatory formal qualification in project management (Diploma in project management)
  • A firm understanding and experience in structural integrity remediation
  • Ability to lead technical teams of diverse trades, boiler makers, electricians, fitters and welders

 People accountabilities

  • Assists Superintendent with day to day running of department and people management.
  • Working effectively with people from other backgrounds, cultures, and nationalities
  • Ensuring own work performance meets all role requirements; and taking appropriate professional development actions
  • Ensuring own Health & Safety as well as that of all other workers, identifying and maintaining safe work practices and completing all required safety training

Essential

  • Behaviour consistent with St Barbara’s Values
  • At least 5 years Industrial experience in maintenance, construction or project management.
  • Proven work experience as a Project Coordinator or similar role
  • Experience in project management, from conception to delivery
  • An ability to prepare and interpret flowcharts, schedules, and step-by-step action plans
  • Solid organisational skills, including multitasking and time-management
  • Strong teamwork skills
  • Familiarity with risk management and quality assurance control
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Project and Microsoft Office suite
  • Hands-on experience with project management tools

 Desirable

  • Structural rehabilitation experience
  • Mechanical engineering qualification
  • Structural engineering qualification
  • A valid PNG Driver’s License
  • Project management qualification
  • Member of IPENG
