We are currently seeking a Travel Superintendent to join our team on a permanent full-time position at our Simberi Operation. Your work location is Papua New Guinea, working a 21/14 Roster from Kavieng, Rabaul, Buka, Port Moresby, Lae, Mt Hagen, Madang, Goroka, Alotau, Wapenamanda, Popondetta, Hoskins, Wewak, Vanimo, or Tabar group of Islands. Reporting to the Finance & Administration Manager, the travel Superintendent is responsible to support Simberi Operations with the provision of Human Resource services, including the implementation and ongoing compliance with the Company’s human resources systems and policies, procedures, guidelines and, to provide sound advice and support to the operations in all HR, Industrial Relations (IR), Labour and personnel related requirements

The role incumbent and manager will identify and review the specific compliance requirements of the role.

The opportunity

Technical accountabilities

  • Undertake arrangements and booking of all SGCL employees, contractor and visitor flights including local and international charters, local and international airlines as well as any other mode of transport as directed.
  • Undertake arrangement and booking of all necessary and applicable accommodation locally and internationally as required.
  • Issuing purchase orders to airflight companies and hotels.
  • Prepare and distribute, in a timely fashion, all necessary itineraries for flights and accommodation in relation to the above.
  • Identifies and enforces corporate travel policies and procedures to improve workflow efficiency and reduce cost savings in overall operation.
  • Determines best booking procedure based on cost savings and communicates itinerary and instructions to senior staff and employees.
  • Prepare and filing of all flight related manifests, consignment notes and flight documentation.
  • Preparation and distribution of all flight and charter schedules.
  • Responsible for transporting staff to and from Mine and Airport.
  • Loading/unloading, pick up and transport of all personnel, baggage, and freight to and from the Simberi accommodation camp and Simberi airstrip.
  • All other travel and accommodation related work as directed.
  • Assist with all other logistics and warehouse work as directed.
  • Assisting pilots with aircraft refueling.
  • Contributing to designated Travel projects
  • Supporting continuous improvement in the quality of the Company’s Travel and Accommodation options.
  • Supporting the establishment of the desired safety culture across the Company
  • Contributing productively as a member of the Human Resources Team
  • Manage disciplinary processes and actions of the Team.
  • Oversee the development of the Travel contractor monthly report.
  • Delegate responsibility and authority through clear task allocation and monitoring of performance on those tasks
  • Provide mentoring and coaching to the site Travel Team.

 Scheduling accountabilities

  • Assisting with the delivery of an annual Travel Plan that derives from the St Barbara strategic and business plans.

 People accountabilities

  • Contributing to building, developing, and leading an effective Travel Team.

Essential

  • Behaviour consistent with St Barbara’s Values
  • A Certificate qualification in a Business Management-related discipline
  • At least five years relevant, successful work experience in the travel industry.
  • Working knowledge of travel policies and procedures.
  • Strong systems capability
  • Basis knowledge of IATA guidelines to travel.
  • Excellent PC skills including word processing, spreadsheet applications and email functions.
  • Excellent Organization and Planning Skills.
  • High integrity, honesty, and ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to react quickly to arising issues.
  • High energy with demonstrated capacity to deliver under pressure.
  • Ability to quickly establish and to maintain strong personal credibility.
  • Ability to influence, persuade and express ideas

Desirable

  • Current PNG Drivers Licence
