We are currently seeking a Drill & Blast Senior Supervisor to join our team. permanent full-time position at our Simberi Operation. Your work location is Papua New Guinea, working a 14/7 Roster from Kavieng, Rabaul, Port Moresby, Lae, Mt Hagen, Madang, Goroka, Alotau, Wapenamanda, Popondetta, Hoskins, Wewak, Vanimo, or Tabar group of Islands. This position is to supervise drill rigs and run the day to day needs of the Company’s Drill Rigs as directed by the Mining Manager or his appointee. This will include compliance with scheduled maintenance and repair of drilling equipment to ensure production targets are achieved in a safe and environmentally friendly manner.

The role incumbent and manager will identify and review the specific compliance requirements of the role.
The opportunity
Technical Accountabilities
- Ensuring safe work practices, own health and safety and all other workers by identifying hazards and ensuring issues and risks are reported and addressed.
- Undertaking the design and execution of drill and blast designs for the excavation of long-hole open stopes and vertical capital development, including raise-bore and box-hole drilling, with oversight and approval from the Senior Mining Engineer.
- Providing support both to the foreman and on-the-job during production drilling and blasting activities, ensuring compliance to standards and a maintained focus on effective QA/QC.
- Collating and reviewing drill and blast performance physicals and data daily, including the assessment of long-hole drilling and stope bogging performance to monitor progress and identify underutilised capacity and opportunities for increased output.
- Coordinating explosive consumables to ensure a practical and sufficient supply is always available.
- Performing duties associated with the logging and blasting of operations.
- Contributing to the mine planning, stope note and level extraction plan process, including stope shape optimisation and detailed stope reconciliations.
- Identifying and driving the implementation of business improvement initiatives, as well as providing support to other member of the mining team.
- Liaising with and providing support to external contractors regarding underground operational requirements at Leonora Operations.
- Reviewing and maintaining the accuracy of the ‘Drill and Blast Guidelines’ document.
- Contributing to the mine scheduling process by identifying production constraints and opportunities regarding drill and blast operations at Leonora.
Scheduling accountabilities
- Managing effective use of available resources, including time, in support of delivery of business outputs by the Mining Department.
People accountabilities
- Ensuring own work performance meets all role requirements.
- Ensuring personal development in existing role.
- Developing operational readiness for redeployment into other Mining Engineering roles by training of other team members.

Essential
- Behaviour consistent with St Barbara Values
- Minimum of 5–8 years’ experience in Drill & Blast operations within the mining industry
- Tertiary qualification in Mining Engineering or related discipline (desirable)
- Proven supervisory or leadership experience in a drill & blast team
- Experience working in remote or FIFO mining operations
- Strong understanding of drill & blast planning, design, and execution
- Familiar with blast hole drilling, explosives handling, and charge-up procedures
- Competent in using mining software
- Ability to interpret and implement blast designs and ensure compliance with site standards
- Strong leadership and team coordination skills
- Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities
- Commitment to safety and continuous improvement
- Ability to work under pressure and manage shifting priorities
Desirable
- Shotfirer’s Certificate of Competency (mandatory)
- Dangerous Goods Handling certification
- Current PNG Class 6 or equivalent driver’s licence
- First Aid certificate (advantage)
