We are currently seeking a Manager Operational Readiness to join our team. This is a three-year max term full time position at our Simberi Operation. Your work location is Papua New Guinea, working a 21/14 FIFO Roster from any Australian capital city.
Reporting to the Executive General Manager Simberi you will lead the development and implementation of the operational readiness program to ensure the seamless transition from oxide mining to sulphide ore processing. You will also be responsible for identifying risks and ensuring business readiness across people, processes, and systems to achieve the operational objectives.
The opportunity
- Developing and overseeing operational readiness plans for the Sulphide Plant and associated infrastructure, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives and project timelines.
- Ensuring operational requirements are integrated into the design and implementation of new infrastructure, including the second ball mill, flotation circuit, additional generators, haul roads, and the wharf.
- Overseeing commissioning and pre-startup readiness for all new equipment and facilities, ensuring smooth and effective handover to operations.
- Identifying and mitigating operational risks, including safety, environmental, and technical challenges, to secure a safe and efficient ramp-up.
- Establishing mechanisms and reporting for continuous improvement to support the plant's long-term efficiency and sustainability post-transition.
- Working closely with the project/construction teams, contractors, technical experts, and key stakeholders to drive alignment and resolve operational challenges.
- Establishing and optimising systems, processes, and procedures required for the efficient operation of the Sulphide Plant and supporting infrastructure.
- Leading workforce planning and training initiatives to ensure employees are prepared for the transition, including technical training for new equipment and processes.
- Providing leadership and guidance to ensure team readiness, knowledge-sharing, and effective collaboration across all stakeholders.
- Building strong relationships with the project team, operations and key external stakeholders. Keeping all parties informed, involved and engaged with the progress in the operational readiness plan.
- Fostering a culture of safety, collaboration, and operational excellence within project teams and operational personnel.
- Ensuring compliance with safety, health, environmental and community standards and PNG regulatory requirements across all aspects of the project.
- Working closely with Community Relations & Environment to proactively address community and environmental concerns related to the project.

We would love to hear from you if you have:
- Degree in Engineering, Mining, Metallurgy or related discipline would be preferable.
- Extensive experience in operational readiness, project management, and/or commissioning within the mining or resource sector.
- Proven track record in managing large-scale transitions or plant expansions.
- Understanding of safety, environmental, and regulatory compliance requirements.
- Exceptional leadership, stakeholder management and communication skills, including communicating with people from different backgrounds and cultures.
- Ability to work to tight deadlines on multiple tasks with high performance goals.
- Commercial acumen relevant to the role.
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to prioritise.
- Proactive with an ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Previous expat experience in a developing country & challenging environment would be desirable.
