​Job Summary

We are currently seeking to recruit an Accounting Supervisor to join our highly dynamic workforce within our Simberi Operations in Simberi Island in New Ireland Province.

The Role

Reporting to the Finance & Administration Manager, the purpose of this role is to support the site Finance & Administration and provide accurate and timely reporting of financial transactions to ensure the efficient functions.

This is an exciting time to join Simberi & St Barbara as we embark on our “Building Brilliance” journey to transform the business and deliver sustainable value.  

This is a FIFO position, with a 21/14 roster. Point of Hire available: Kavieng, Rabaul, Port Moresby, Lae, Mt Hagen, Tabar Islands Group, Alotau, Buka, Goroka, Hoskins, Madang, Popondetta and Wapenamanda. (Locals are encouraged to apply).

Role Accountabilities

Technical Accountabilities

  • Ensuring and monitoring safety in the workplace by identifying and addressing hazards, participating in improving safety and ensuring all reporting requirements are completed.
  • Promote a strong safety culture, leading by example and rewarding success
  •  Ensuring compliance with SGCL reporting procedures
  • Providing leadership, direction, and supervision for the Finance & Administration teams
  • Assist management to ensure that the Finance department meets its environmental obligations.
  • Ensure compliance and consistency in applying all site accounting policies, procedures and processes in line with broader corporate finance policies.
  • Assisting Finance Superintendent in providing timely costing and reports for the National Payroll.
  • Assisting Finance Superintendent in providing accurate payroll transaction journals on a monthly basis.
  • Assisting Finance Superintendent to provide timely and accurate reconciliation of general ledger accounts associated with the National Payroll and Cash Held on Site.
  • Ensuring monthly Back charge Invoices are completed in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Ensure that the Back charge Clearing account is fully reconciled each month and corrective actions taken to keep the balance at Nil after recharges have been completed.
  • Ensuing that the Debtors accounts for Back charges are kept within a 30 day balance.
  • Verifying fortnightly payroll transactions and provide assistance and advice to payroll officers.

Scheduling Accountabilities

  • Managing effective use of available resources, including own time, in support of the delivery of the Supply team

 People accountabilities

  • Ensuring own work performance meets all role requirements and taking appropriate professional development actions.

Qualifications, Skills, and Experience required

Essential

  • Behaviour consistent with St Barbara’s Values
  • A degree qualification in Accounting or Commerce
  • At least 5 years relevant experience working within a finance team
  • Demonstrated experience in the application of ERP accounting software
  • Advanced PC skills and computer literacy
  • Strong ability to work effectively within a team
  • Strong communication skills, including communicating with people from different backgrounds and cultures
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines on multiple tasks
  • High level of enthusiasm for the work with high performance goals
  • Commercial acumen relevant to the role 

Desirable

  • Certified Accountant Certificate
