We are currently seeking a Control Room Operator to join our Processing team, on a permanent full-time position at our Simberi Operation. Your work location is at Simberi Island, working a 15/13 Roster from Kavieng, Rabaul, Port Moresby, Lae, Mt Hagen, Madang, Goroka, Alotau, Wapenamanda, Popondetta, Hoskins, Wewak, Vanimo, or Tabar group of Islands. Reporting to the Process Supervisor, this role will provide experienced technician services to the shift operations through the control room. Ensuring continuous operation of the plant and avoiding plant stoppages through monitoring equipment and adjusting control parameters according to Metallurgist daily guidelines and existing department short interval controls.
The opportunity
Technical accountabilities
- Ensuring safe work practices, own health and safety of all other workers by identifying hazards and ensuring issues and risks are reported.
- Perform equipment monitoring and management via Citect and Pi, problematic troubleshooting and compiling of shift reports / data as required.
- Keep Process Supervisor and Process management informed of activities including unusual plant/equipment performance or concerns.
- Provide instruction to field Technicians relating to status of plant and adjustments required.
- Allocate field tasks to Technicians to ensure safe and efficient gold production.
- Ensure work requests are raised as reported by area Technicians.
- Assist with daily plant performance records and provides daily reagent consumption estimates.
- Problem solve plant performance issues and provides feedback to Supervisor. Escalates breakdowns to Process Supervisor upon equipment breakdown.
Scheduling accountabilities
- Ensure plant it operated in efficient manner to maximise recovery and throughout in support of the delivery of the Processing Operations plans.
People accountabilities
- Assist Processing Supervisor with crew management in absence of leading hand.
- Ensuring own work performance meets all role requirements; and taking appropriate professional development actions.

Essential
- Behaviour consistent with St Barbara’s Values
- Ten (10) years’ experience in Process operations with at least five (5) years in a similar role.
- Ability to operate and work in a safe and responsible manner.
- Computer literate, familiar with Office suites
- ·Experienced Citect and Pi user.
- Ability to read, write and understand English
- Able to communicate effectively at all levels.
- Ability to work within a team environment.
- Willingness and ability to relieve Process Supervisor or Leading Hand during absence.
Desirable
- Certificate III in Mineral Processing or equivalent
