We are currently seeking a Senior Dispatch Engineer to join our Mine operations team in a permanent full-time position at our Simberi Operation. Your work location is Simberi Island, working a 21/14 Roster from Kavieng, Rabaul, Port Moresby, Lae, Mt Hagen, Madang, Goroka, Alotau, Wapenamanda, Popondetta, Hoskins, Wewak, Vanimo, or Tabar group of Islands. Reporting to the Mine Operations Superintendent, the Senior Dispatch Engineer is responsible for ensuring the effective operation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of the Fleet Management System (FMS) to support safe, efficient, and productive mining operations. The role focuses on maintaining data integrity, optimizing fleet performance, supporting technical services, and mentoring dispatch personnel while contributing to operational excellence.

The opportunity

Technical Accountabilities

  • Monitor and manage the Fleet Management System to achieve production objectives safely and efficiently.
  • Maintain mine model parameters including pit graphics, ore blocks, grades, roads, dumps, and maps to ensure system accuracy.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain dispatch procedures, operating practices, and reporting systems. 
  • Ensure accurate and timely production reporting through regular data validation and quality control.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives using fleet management and operational data.
  • Coordinate with Mining Operations and Technical Services teams to optimize mining activities.
  • Manage system maintenance, upgrades, installation, and commissioning activities.
  •  Assist in project management, training, and deployment of fleet management technologies.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to identify and implement operational improvements.

Scheduling Accountabilities

  • Maintain and update fleet management system parameters to align with mine plans and operational schedules.
  • Ensure production data is captured, validated, and reported within required timeframes.
  • Coordinate dispatch activities to support efficient utilization of mining equipment and resources.
  • Monitor fleet performance and provide timely recommendations to improve productivity.
  • Support short-term operational planning through accurate data analysis and reporting.

People Accountabilities

  • Train, mentor, and support Dispatch personnel in the effective use of Fleet Management Systems.
  • Assist in the development of Dispatch team members, Graduate Engineers, and Mining Engineers.
  • Promote a strong safety culture through active participation in safety meetings and toolbox talks.
  • Foster positive working relationships across Technical Services, Geology, Survey, and Mining Operations teams.
  • Demonstrate leadership through effective communication, teamwork, and continuous learning.
  • Support community and environmental initiatives aligned with company values and standards.

Essential

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mining Engineering or Geology.
  • Minimum five (5) years’ experience in open pit mining operations.
  • Previous experience as a Dispatch Engineer.
  • Strong knowledge of Fleet Management Systems and mining operations.
  • Demonstrated experience in continuous improvement and operational optimization.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and reporting skills.
  • Advanced computer skills including Microsoft Office and integrated management systems.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Commitment to health, safety, environmental, and community standards.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and manage multiple priorities.
  • Current National Police Clearance (or ability to obtain one for site access).

 Desirable

  • Experience in remote-site mining operations.
  • Experience managing or coordinating dispatch system projects and upgrades.
  • Previous leadership, mentoring, or training experience.
  • Exposure to fleet management system implementation and commissioning.
  • Experience working with multidisciplinary mining teams and external contractors.
  • Knowledge of data analytics and production performance improvement methodologies.
