We are currently seeking a Senior Projects Metallurgist to join our team. This is a three-year maximum term full time position at our Simberi Operation. Your work location is Papua New Guinea, working a 21/14 FIFO Roster from any Australian capital city.

Reporting to the Manager Processing you will contribute to optimise the extraction and processing of gold in the Processing Department to safely achieve maximum gold recovery and throughput through metallurgical project delivery.

The opportunity

  • Supporting the delivery of capital and operational projects within the gold processing facility.
  • Managing engineering design, project scoping, coordination of contractors and maintenance.
  • Assisting the processing department in operational readiness, ensuring seamless integration of projects into ongoing plant operations.
  • Optimising plant safety and production performance by ensuring projects are completed safely, on time and within budget as well as supporting management of operational performance systems.
  • Participating in the design, scoping, and specification development for processing plant projects (e.g. plant improvements, repairs, debottlenecking) utilising the services of external design engineers.
  • Reviewing engineering drawings, P&IDs, equipment specifications, and ensure compliance with relevant Australian Standards and site requirements.
  • Overseeing the implementation of processing projects from concept through to commissioning and handover.
  • Coordinating contractors, vendors, and internal resources to ensure work is completed safely and efficiently.
  • Assisting in planning and executing shutdowns related to project tie-ins or new equipment installations and managing department action registers.
  • Developing spare parts lists, preventative maintenance plans and safe operating procedures and operations and maintenance training as required for all new installations.
  • Providing project support to operations, maintenance, and metallurgical teams for troubleshooting and optimisation initiatives.
  • Performing process calculations, equipment sizing, and modelling where required with support of vendors and design engineers.

We would love to hear from you if you have​:   

  • Degree in Chemical, Metallurgical, Process or Mechanical Engineering and/or Project Management in an operating environment.
  • Extensive experience in the mining industry, preferably in gold processing plants.
  • Demonstrated involvement in projects implementation, engineering design, or plant upgrades.
  • Strong understanding of gold processing technologies (e.g. crushing, milling, gravity separation, leaching, adsorption, elution, and tailings management).
  • Familiar with project management principles and processes.
  • High level of enthusiasm for the work with high performance goals for self and team.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Solid commitment to safety and safe work practices.
  • Previous expat experience in a developing country & challenging environment would be desirable.
