We are currently seeking a Mine Operations Trainers to join our Mining team on a permanent full-time position at our Simberi Operation. Your work location is Papua New Guinea, working a 21/14 Roster from Kavieng, Rabaul, Port Moresby, Lae, Mt Hagen, Buka, Madang, Goroka, Alotau, Wapenamanda, Popondetta, Hoskins, Wewak, Vanimo, or Tabar group of Islands. Reporting to the Mining Superintendent, this position is responsible to develop and deliver tailored Heavy Equipment Operator training packages and provide regular assessment and upskilling of the competencies of individuals to safely and effectively deliver the overall operational targets and corporate expectations.
The opportunity
Technical Accountabilities
- Conducting theoretical and practical training for Trainee HE Operators.
- Maintenance and up keeping of training logbook of Trainee HE Operators.
- Assessing HE Operators at completion of each phase/level of the Mine Operations Competency Framework.
- Conduct Verification Of Competency (VOC) and reassessments.
- Ensuring all records and evidence of training and assessments are duly captured and uploaded in the Training Management System.
- Assist with Accident and Incident Investigations, ICAM process and be familiar with formulating written accident reports.
- Daily pre-operational equipment safety checks. Ensure heavy equipment is safely and securely stored.
- Optimising surface mine operations employees to meet projected production targets in a safe manner.
- Recommend improvements to safe operating procedures.
- Participate in and promote Safety activities and inspections.
- Promote awareness of equipment housekeeping and safety inspection of the workplace.
- Undertake specific mine safety induction for new hires.
- Operate ADT 740 HT, ADT 745 HT, Bell B5OD TRUCK, Excavator, Track Dozer, Grader, Wheel Loader and Volvo A60H HT.
Scheduling Accountabilities
- Attend daily Prestart safety meetings
- Plan and schedule regular competency assessments for operators
- Compiling of monthly training reports
People Accountabilities
- Interaction with and people at all levels in the organisation.
- Ensuring all operator trainees are trained to the standard and competencies required;
- Ensuring all operator trainees are properly and fairly assessed and certified;
- Assisting the operation management put in place a clearly defined line of progression and the reviews thereof

Essential
- Behavior consistent with St Barbara’s Values
- Certificate IV in Training and Assessment
- At least 5 years in a Trainer role in the Mining or Earthmoving environment
- 5 years Heavy Equipment Operator experience
- Proven commitment to Safety, Health, and Environmental Standards.
Desirable
- Relevant resources industry work experience
- Strong ability to work effectively within a team;
- Strong communication skills, including communicating with people from different backgrounds and cultures;
- Ability to work to tight deadlines on multiple tasks
