We are currently seeking a Metallurgy Superintendent to join our team. This is a three-year maximum term full time position at our Simberi Operation. Your work location is Papua New Guinea, working a 21/14 FIFO Roster from any Australian capital city.

Reporting to the Manager Processing you will be responsible in supporting the Manager Processing in their daily tasks to safely maximise the recovery and throughput of gold from the run of mine ore. You will also manage the Metallurgy and Laboratory functions within the Processing Department.

The opportunity

  • Mentoring, encouraging and promoting confidence in the local workforce.
  • Ensuring that the Metallurgical function delivers to plan in respect of accounting, quality control, projects, circuit analyses, improvement, production, recovery and cost per tonne.
  • Maximising the gold recovery from the ore delivered to the ROM through robust analytical processes both on daily and longer-term basis. Ensuring structure of team supports both needs.
  • Meeting all relevant statutory obligations.
  • Assisting the Manager Processing to build and maintain an environment for business improvement across the Processing Department.
  • Ensuring timely, accurate reporting of Processing function performance to the Manager Processing and other internal and external parties.
  • Contributing productively as a member of the Processing Department Leadership Team.
  • Ensuring that the Metallurgical function develops and uses effective plans that derive from annual planning and support both Mining and the Processing department.
  • Ensuring the contract partners associated with the Processing Department are well aligned with St Barbara’s Vision and Values and have the culture, motivation and capability to deliver to promise.

We would love to hear from you if you have​:

  • Degree in Metallurgy, Chemical or Mineral Processing
  • Ability to produce a National Police Certificate.
  • Current unencumbered 'C' Class Driver's Licence.
  • Extensive experience in the Gold Mining industry.
  • Exceptional leadership skills, including the development of direct reports.
  • High energy with strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • High level of computer literacy.
  • Demonstrated experience in report writing and presentations.
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines on multiple tasks.
  • High level of enthusiasm for the work with high performance goals.
  • Previous expat experience in a developing country & challenging environment would be desirable.
