We are currently seeking a Senior Logistics Operator to join our Commercial team in a permanent full-time position at our Simberi Operation. Your work location is Simberi Island, working a 21/14 Roster from Kavieng, Rabaul, Port Moresby, Lae, Mt Hagen, Madang, Goroka, Alotau, Wapenamanda, Popondetta, Hoskins, Wewak, Vanimo, or Tabar group of Islands. Reporting to the Supply Supervisor, this role is responsible for directing the movement of plant, equipment, containers, and freight across the mine site, processing plant, camp, and contractor areas.

The successful candidate will oversee on-site logistics operations, supervise logistics personnel, and ensure the safe loading, unloading, transportation, and delivery of materials while maintaining the highest standards of safety, efficiency, and environmental compliance.

The Opportunity

Technical Accountabilities

  • Direct the safe movement of Container Reach Stackers within the logistics yard and operational areas.
  • Inspect loads for size, weight, shape, and centre of gravity to determine appropriate lifting methods and equipment.
  • Conduct inspections, maintenance, and reporting of rigging equipment including chains, slings, ropes, cables, hooks, and lifting gear.
  • Ensure all loads are balanced, within Safe Working Load (SWL) limits, and safely positioned.
  • Attach and manage lifting devices in accordance with approved lifting and rigging plans.
  • Transport loads using articulated trucks, side lifters, forklifts, and other material-handling equipment.
  • Complete daily equipment inspections and maintain machine logbooks.
  • Maintain accurate freight, container, dispatch, and logistics registers.
  • Prepare and comply with Job Hazard Safety Analyses (JHSAs).
  • Ensure proper handling and storage of Dangerous Goods while protecting people, equipment, and the environment.
  • Maintain effective communication with logistics personnel through radio communication and hand signals.

Scheduling Accountabilities

  • Coordinate the safe and efficient delivery of daily reagent requirements to the processing plant.
  • Plan and oversee container and freight movements across operational areas.
  • Coordinate logistics resources to ensure timely delivery of stores, equipment, and materials.
  • Supervise truck and trailer drivers and support efficient logistics operations across the site.

 People Accountabilities

  • Lead and contribute to a high-performing logistics team.
  • Supervise logistics operators, riggers, and drivers during daily operations.
  • Promote a strong safety culture and ensure compliance with site safety standards.
  • Support team development through mentoring, coaching, and knowledge sharing.
  • Ensure personal performance meets role expectations and actively pursue professional development opportunities.
  • Foster effective communication and collaboration across departments and with site stakeholders.

Essential

  • Demonstrated commitment to workplace health, safety, and environmental standards.
  • Behaviour consistent with company values and professional conduct expectations.
  • Current Reach Stacker Licence/Ticket with 2 years + operational experience.
  • Current Forklift Licence.
  • Current Rigging and Dogging Licence.
  • Strong English communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and complete JHSAs, operational logs, and registers.
  • Experience in logistics, freight handling, rigging, lifting operations, and material handling equipment.
  • Strong commitment to both personal and team safety and operational excellence.

Desirable

  • Certificate III in Rigging.
  • Articulated Truck Licence - Class 7
  • Side Loader/Trailer Operator Ticket.
  • IT Loader licence and operational experience
  • Previous experience working in remote mining operations, or heavy industrial environments.
  • Excellent organisational and coordination skills.
  • Stevedoring and or Wharf/port logistics experience.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and supervise other logistics personnel.
  • Sound problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
